POWERTOOLS
Data Auditing
Before linking data or charts in Excel spreadsheets to PowerPoint or Word, you can audit your model using AutoColor and
Smart Trace. This helps you to clean up any errors and ensure models are ready for your audience.

AutoColor AutoColor color codes the contents of the cells on your spreadsheet so you can identify spreadsheet
components at a glance, such as constant values, values imported by formulas and values imported from other workbooks.

the Format group of the Bloomberg 1

How to use it:


1 Highlight an area on your spreadsheet.
2 From the Bloomberg ribbon, click the
drop-down arrow next to AutoColor
and select Selection.
3 Cells in the spreadsheet are color
coded based on their contents.

Smart Trace Smart Trace brings transparency to the calculations on your spreadsheets, so you can easily evaluate each
component of an API formula for accuracy and track which cells influence the output of a specific cell.

How to use it:


1 Click on a cell that contains a formula.
2 From the Bloomberg ribbon, click
Smart Trace.
3 The Smart Trace panel opens. On the 2
panel, select Precedents or Dependents,
so you can examine either the cells on
which the selected cell depends or the
cells that depend on it.
4 Use the panel to easily analyze the 3
selected cell. You can see the data field,
value, or formula that the cell contains and
the values or formulas within its precedent
or dependent cells.
5 For easy spreadsheet navigation, annotate

the cells within your spreadsheet by
naming them. You can also save notes
on specific cells for future reference.

Formatting
After auditing the financial model, you can use Error Substitution and Speed Formatting to finalize your financial models.

Error Substitution Errors can appear in a model for a number of reasons. With Error Substitution, you can easily
and automatically replace spreadsheet errors with custom text and ensure your data is presentation-ready.

for your presentations. Its easy to customize and memorize formatting, so you can save frequently-used styles and maintain
uniformity of design.

The Hot Key Manager


The Hot Key Manager allows you to override standard Microsoft keyboard shortcuts, so you can assign unique hot keys
to specific Bloomberg Add-In tools and quickly access the features you need. You can also share hot keys with colleagues
using the import/export links.

Size Guide Size Guide helps you resize the table or chart to fit in your PowerPoint presentation. You can place an image on
the spreadsheet that represents the size of the destination area in PowerPoint. Once you have finished formatting, the guide
can be deleted.

Link Manager Bloombergs Link Manager maintains the linked data between Excel and PowerPoint or Word files, so that
whenever the data is updated on the Excel spreadsheet, it automatically updates on the PowerPoint presentation or Word
document as well. The Update feature helps to ensure that the data in PowerPoint or Word is up-to-date.

data you want to update.
2 From the Bloomberg ribbon, click
Update. The data in your file syncs

Bloomberg Charts
The Chart Library integrates Bloomberg charts with Excel and PowerPoint, so you can quickly construct professional
quality charts in your spreadsheets and presentations. In Excel, the charts update in real time and can be directly edited. In
PowerPoint, the charts are imported as resizable images. You can create new charts or import existing saved charts from the
Chart Library (G <GO> or ECWB <GO>) functions and customize them with features such as annotations and studies.

To create a new chart:

3 To update a chart, from the Bloomberg
ribbon, click Chart Library and select
Refresh Selected Chart.
4 To edit a chart in PowerPoint:
Select a Bloomberg Chart > From 3
the Bloomberg ribbon, click Chart
Library > Edit Selected Chart.
Users can edit the chart just as you
edit it in the Chart Library.

How to use it:
To create a new chart: 1
1 From the Bloomberg ribbon, click 2
Chart Library and select Create
New Chart.

Chart Library wizard. (In Step 4,
enabling the Render Formula

Locked/Unlocked Charts You can construct a Locked chart or an Unlocked chart in G. An Unlocked chart, also
known as a template chart, is created when you want to use the same Chart for different securities. When using a
template Bloomberg Chart in Excel, the chart defaults to plotting INDU Index. Use the Render Formula option in the
Chart Wizard to control security selection for the chart in Excel.

B-Links
B-Links allow you to create hyperlinks in your emails or documents that launch Bloomberg functions, so you can easily direct
your colleagues or clients to specific Bloomberg screens.

How to use it:


1 Create a hyperlink.
2 Type a B-Link URL and then click 1

bbg://screens/wei to create a
link to the World Equity Indices
(WEI <GO>) function.

File Manager
The File Manager allows you to upload and download spreadsheets directly from Microsoft Office applications to the Bloomberg

Bloomberg clients using the Message (MSG <GO>) function directly from Microsoft Office.

How to use it:


From the Bloomberg ribbon, click File
Manager, then select an option:
