Title: Sequences, Functions, Probability Length of Unit: Term 1
Summary of Unit
Students will study arithmetioc and geometric sequences and learn how to find sums of series and expand
using the Binomial expansion. They will understand function notation and be able to find composite and
inverse functions and be able to solve quadratic functions and understand the discriminant. They will also
learn about Venn Diagrams and their use in finding probabilities as well as how to use tree diagrams to work
with conditional probability.
This constitutes Chapters 6, 1, 2 and 3 from the accompanying textbook.

How will progress be measured?


Students will be given a short pre-topic quiz which focuses on prior learning
and skills. This is to inform planning and feedback will not be shared at an
Diagnostic Assessment:
individual level.

There will be ongoing formative assessment through monitoring of class and


homework. There will be investigation style questions to further extend and
Formative Assessment:
stretch understanding.

Students will be given a formal unit assessment that incorporates application


of the skills learned. Performance in this will be used in conjunction with
Summative Assessment:
progress identified during the unit when considering a final summative level.
