Prerequisites: CHE 304, CHE 312

1. Seborg, Edgar, et al., Process Dynamics and Control, 3rd edition, WILEY,
2011. (Textbook recommended)
2. Coughanowr and LeBlanc, Process Systems Analysis and Control, 3rd
edition, McGraw-Hill, 2008. (Reference)
3. Lecturers slides.

Course Objective:

After completing this course the students will be able to

1. Understand the basic components of control systems.


2. Place appropriate control loops on a PFD.
3. Derive equations governing the dynamic behavior of processes.
4. Derive transfer functions of simple processes.
5. Simulate the dynamic behavior of a process using MATLAB.
6. Understand the typical industrial control systems.

Grading:

No late homework. No make-up quizzes or tests

Homework (totally 8 assignments) 30%
Comprehensive quizzes (totally 3 quizzes) 30%, closed books/notes
but with one side letter size cheat sheet
Comprehensive Final 40%, closed books/notes
but with one side letter size cheat sheet

Make-ups will be given only if the absence is due to a legitimate reason approved
by the instructor and substantiated by written verification. Your course grade is
based on the following absolute scale:

A : 93-100%, A- : 90-93% , B+ : 87-90% , B : 83-87% , B- : 80-83%


C+ : 77-80% , C : 73-77% , C- : 70-73%
D+ : 67-70% , D : 60-67% , F : 0-60%

Cheating, including copying is considered a serious offense and will result in a F


for the course.
