INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING WINDOWS 7 USB DRIVER FOR PROGRAMMING CABLE

Before you start, you should have stored the necessary driver files in a folder that you know
the location of and can find again.

1. Plug the programming cable into the PC & allow Windows to automatically install
what it thinks is a suitable driver (it wont be, but well rectify that).
2. Select START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM AND SECURITY.
3. Look under the SYSTEM heading. Click on the last item, DEVICE MANAGER.
4. In the DEVICE MANAGER window, click on the little arrow to the left of PORTS (COM
& LPT).
5. One of the device listed there should contain the word PROLIFIC.
6. Right-click on the Prolific Device and select UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE.
7. Select BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE.
8. Select LET ME PICK
9. Click the HAVE DISK button.
10. Click the BROWSE button.
11. Navigate to the folder where you stored the driver files earlier.
12. Select the appropriate driver file (for 32-bit systems its called Serspl.inf; for 64-bit
systems its called Ser2pl.inf).
13. Click the OPEN button.
14. In the small INSTALL FROM DISK WINDOW the path will now show to the file you
have selected.
15. Click the OK button.
16. A window will open headed SELECT THE DEVICE DRIVER YOU WANT TO INSTALL FOR
THIS HARDWARE. There should only be one entry called PROLIFIC USB-TO-SERIAL
BRIDGE, and it should already be highlighted in grey.
17. Ignore the warning at the bottom about the driver not being digitally signed.
18. Click the NEXT button.
19. An INSTALLING message will appear, and then a confirmation that the driver for the
PROLIFIC USB-TO-SERIAL BRIDGE has been successfully updated.
20. Click the CLOSE button.
21. The DEVICE MANAGER window should still be open. If you look under the PORTS
heading, you should now see an item listed called PROLIFIC USB-TO-SERIAL BRIDGE,
with a Com port number in brackets behind it. Make a note of this number as you
will need to set it in the programming software.
