Listening Text

For number 1-3

As a writer, Marcelo h. del Pilar gained recognition not only because of the clarity of his style but also
because of the progressive views he held. He deplored deeply the backward condition of the country and the
people. With satire and parody as weapons, del Pilar directed his writings against his target. He produced
several pieces of biting prose under pseudonyms like Dolores Manlapat, Piping Dilat, L.O. Crame, Carmelo,
and Plaridel.

For number 4-8

There are three kinds of hobbies that people engage in those which cost them much money, those which
do not cost them anything at all, and those which enable them to make money. Collecting antique materials or
jewelry or travelling are quite expensive hobbies. But hobbies like making stuffed toys or making wall
decorations enable one to enjoy his spare moments and at the same time earn extra income. However, to really
profit from ones leisure time, one should not only select a hobby but also learn all he can do about that hobby
he has chosen and then develop it to the fullest.
