CONCLUSION
As per the Battery sizing calculation, minimum requirement is = 146.74267
Consider 300 Ah
Battery Charger Calculation
FLOAT MODE
i). Maximum continous DC Load= 3.54545455 A
ii). Maximum Trickle charging current required= 2-4mA/Ah
= 1200 mA
= 1.2 A
iii) Float current required for 110Ah Nicad Battery
( Maximum Continous Load+ Maximum Trickle Charging Current) 4.74545455 A
iv) Design Margin = 10%
v) Minimum current required considering 10% margin= 5.22 A
Hence rating of Float charger is taken as 10A
BOOST MODE
i) Capacity of Battery Bank= 300 Ah
ii) Maximum Boost charging required= 20% of battery capacity
= 60
Hence rating of boost charger is 60A
RESULT
i) Capacity of 110V Nicad battery at C5 Discharge rate giving backup of 5hrs=
ii) Rating of Float Charger=
iii) Rating of Boost Charger=
The Ampere Capacity of the charger for substation applications can be determined by following equation:
A= L+ BIF xC/H
Where
A= Charge Capacity in Amps(To be Calculated)
L= Continuous Load in Amps
3.5454545455
C= Battery Capacity in AH
300
BIF= Battery inefficiency factor
1.4 for NiCad batteries
H= Battery recharge time in hours
5 (As per client requirement)
Ampere Capacity= 87.5454545 Amp
Consider charger rating of 100 A
