GENERAL SAFETY RULES


All lab users must understand and follow the below procedures in addition to the general safety
and conduct rules described in Sections 2 through 4 of this manual.
- Do not operate any of the equipment unless you have been trained and authorized to do
so.
- Inform the lab supervisor or the CE department office if there are any problems, or in
case you are not sure if the equipment is operating properly and safely.
- Because the lab contains large stationary objects students must be aware of their
surroundings and take care to not hit their head or feet on any of these objects.
- Hydraulics & Fluid Mechanics lab only uses low pressure and low temperature water. For
this reason wearing of safety glasses is typically not required. However, use appropriate
sight, hearing, and protective equipment when performing potentially hazardous
Operations

OFFICIAL RULES
Besides the General Rules of Laboratories and the Computer Utilization Policy, there are other
specific rule that apply to this laboratory:

Academic experiment sessions will be given priority. Other user may use the laboratory
when there is no experiment going on.
Prior permission must be obtained from the laboratory staff before the students are allowed
to use the laboratory
The laboratory timetable must be followed strictly. Prior permissions from the laboratory
staff must be obtained in order to use the laboratory during times other than the laboratory
sessions.
Students must be punctual for laboratory experiments. Students who are unable to attend
laboratory sessions (with valid reasons) must inform the laboratory staff through an official
letter.
Experiments conducted in the laboratory must be finished within the allocated time. Refer
to the laboratory instructor/staff if you are not sure how to operate the laboratory
equipment.
All equipment must be returned to their original location after being used.
Abuse of the laboratory hardware, software, and/or systems will result in dismissal from
the laboratory and disciplinary action.
Laboratory users are strictly prohibited from taking anything out from the laboratory
without prior consent from the laboratory staff.
All laboratory users are liable for any damage to equipment due to their own negligence.

Behavior in the Laboratories


- Act in a professional manner at all times.
- No horseplay and practical jokes.
- Visitors must be escorted.
- Contact information is to be posted on all laboratory doors. If an experiment is being run
unattended, the experiment contact information must be displayed.
- Students must be aware of the location and proper operation of laboratory safety equipment,
i.e. fire extinguishers, flammable cabinets and fume hoods, eye-wash stations, and personal
protective equipment.
