Autobiography
Since March 24, 1999 I have been developing my character and
making my way through both difficult and enjoyable times. I have had
the privilege of growing up with both my parents and have been
blessed with three siblings; a sister who is currently ten, a brother
who is seven and an older brother who is 20 years old. Most of my life
I have lived in Quetzaltenango and I have seen how the city has
gradually developed.

As a kid I was fat, lazy, and loved nothing more than my mother
and candy. It was not until I was four when I faced the terror of
school. It took some time to adapt but gradually my interest for
academics grew. I explored the playground asking myself questions
like, why is the sky blue? and why was it so cold outside?. As a
forever curious child I loved to seek for more information and was
eager to discover what the world could offer me. Over time, my
desire for school grew as I discovered how boring it was to stay home.

At the age of 6, my boring afternoons at home ended as I

entered into swimming lessons. For a long time I was always last and
my coach even suggested my mom to find a different sport for me.
My mother, being a strong and faithful woman, didnt doubt that my
abilities would eventually develop. Four years later I was going to
international meets in El Salvador and bringing home gold medals. My
golden years were from 2010 to 2014. I was recognized in
Quetzaltenango and many swimmers knew my name. Then suddenly
tragedy came along; I spent 10 days in the hospital fighting typhoid
fever who promised to take my life slowly. Not giving up and having a
lot of faith in God I recovered slowly. For almost two years, I gained
my weight back since I had lost almost 30 percent of it. I also
struggled through anemia, which constantly drained my energies.
Although my swimming career was suffering, I was far from giving up.

As I entered high school my curiosity peaked. I began to hear

words like community service and college, and then my horizons
really expanded. I began to work harder academically and was on
honor rolls consistently. I was always looking forward to doing better
every day. I served at a school camp that was provided to kids from
low income backgrounds. It filled my heart with joy and because of
that I looked deeper into serving more. I have served in associations
that work to have a positive impact in the lives of the less fortunate.
Some names that stand out are Caras Alegres and Manos de
Salvacion.

Throughout high school, I have had all kinds of extracurricular

activities as well. I have had salsa classes that I found out to be
extremely enjoyable and even have had a job on weekends. I have
worked at a restaurant as a co administrator and a supervisor at a
leather factory. Thanks to great organization skills and my
determination, I have been able to thrive in everything I do.
Additionally I swam throughout highschool even as I studied abroad
for my junior year. I lived and studied in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
There I qualified for states on both the 100 yard free and the 200 IM.
Moreover, I made it to the final for in the 200 IM.

Currently, I am swimming and studying my senior year in

Quetzaltenango. Every day is a new page in a series of chapters of my
life. I wake up having a will to do better than the day before and I
always keep moving forward with my head up high.
