Please find herewith the Network Synchronisation information in 3G

Network Synchronisation (Frequency Accuracy Required): Better than 0.05 ppm (50 ppb)

Transmission Network is deriving clock from the following three sources

1. BSNL FTN SSUT Clock is distributed to all the Tx Node SDH in FTN

2. PBD LVSB (5th Floor) is distributed to all the Tx Node SDH in Prabhadevi

3. GMMP55 (BSNL 11th Floor) is distributed to the Tx Node s GMM & SDH in Prabhadevi.

Thus All the SDH in the Tx Network are synchronized.

3G Network RNC is extracting clock from IUCS Interface SDH.

Node B is extracting clock from E1 system.


When the Node B is getting the clock from IUB interface, its clock oscillator compares the clock quality
extracted from E1 with its own, if found better it gets latched to the clock extracted from E1.

When the quality of the clock extracted from the E1 deteriorates it discards theclock extracted and goes if Free
running mode of its own clock giving clocksynchronization alarm. Quality of service is impacted.

Impact of Synchronisation Alarm: It affects 2G 3G reselections. Dual Mode Customer in 2G will not be able
to come back on 3G in idle resection mode.

Current Status: There are no clock synchronization alarms on RNC and Tnode. There are 32 Synchronisation
alarms in the 32 Node B.

Probable Causes for Sync Alarm: In Most of the Node B is not getting stableclock from E1 & required to
check Tx clock quality. In very few cases the Oscillator in the CCM card of the Node B has gone faulty.
