Rant Rubric

This rubric evaluates a student's speech (rant) on a given topic. It assesses several criteria in four levels from limited (1) to accomplished (4). The criteria include demonstrating understanding of speaking strategies, communicating clearly with an appropriate structure and style, using effective words and devices, employing vocal strategies, using non-verbal cues, locating and selecting sources, meeting submission criteria, identifying conventions of media forms, and producing media texts for different purposes and audiences. Students must film or record a 1.5 minute minimum rant that includes an opening, closing and credits, and complete a worksheet identifying rhetorical devices and production techniques used.
