Description of how this artifact connects to outcomes in the Global Leadership Domains:
This artifact is a book report about A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. In order to produce
this essay, I had to read and annotate the book to understand the content. We were supposed to summarize the
book, and then explain how it gave us a deeper understanding of global events and history. In the book,
multiple perspectives on the conflict between Afghanistan and the Soviet Union, Afghan War, and the rise of
the Taliban were expressed. I explained the perspectives represented in the book as well as my own perspective
on the events listed above. I also explained how those events influenced the lives of Laila and Mariam in the
book. I had to express the personal personal perspectives of characters on political and social situations and
various influences on their perspectives through research and analysis of Afghan history. I explain how
perspectives influence human interactions (specifically Laila and Mariams relationships with each other and
others), affecting their understanding of what was going on in Afghanistan at the time. By doing extra research
about the history of Afghanistan, Sharia Law, and the rise of the Taliban, I applied an understanding of multiple
perspectives on political and religious issues and contexts and interpreted and communicated information aout
those events/issues in my essay.
