Installing Virtual Box
Installing Virtual Box
Step 1:- Download Virtual Box for Windows from the link
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Step 2:- Double click on the installation file and click Run
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2012.
Step 3: Click the New button on the menu bar. Give your VM a name such as
Windows Server 2012. For "Operating System Type", select the operating
system that you want to install. Select Windows 2012 (64-bit) as the Version.
Click Next.
Step 4: On the next page, select the memory (RAM) that Virtual Box should
allocate every time the virtual machine is started. Change the memory size to
8000 MB and click Next.
Step 5: Accept the default of VDI (Virtual Box Disk Image) for the new virtual
disk and click Next.
Step 6: To prevent your physical hard disk from running full, Virtual Box limits
the size of the image file. Still, it needs to be large enough to hold the contents
of your operating system and the applications you want to install -- for a modern
Windows or Linux guest; you will probably need several gigabytes for any
serious use. The limit of the image file size can be changed later. Select the size
of the virtual disk in GB. Click Create.
Step 7: After having selected or created your image file, again press "Next" to
go to the next page.
Step 8: After clicking on "Finish", your new virtual machine will be created. You
will then see it in the list on the left side of the Manager window, with the name
you entered initially.
Step 1: Ensure the Windows Server 2012 VM Is selected and click Settings.
Step 2: Select Storage. Click on Empty under IDE Controller.
Step 3: In the Attributes section, click on the CD icon to the right of CD/DVD
Drive.
Step 4: Select choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file.
Step 5: Browse to the location where you saved the Windows DVD ISO file and
select it. Click Open.
Step 6: The IDE Controller will no longer be listed as Empty, but instead has the
name of the ISO file. It should look similar to the following graphic.

Step 7: We want to include DNS in our installation as this will allow us to have an AD
Integrated DNS Zone, when you click next you will be prompted with a message just
click yes to continue.
Step 8: You will need to choose a place to store log files, it is a best practice to store
the database and SYSVOL folder on one drive and the log files on a separate drive, but
since this is in a lab environment I will just leave them all on the same drive.
Step 9: Choose a STRONG Active Directory Restore Mode Password and click next
twice to kick off the configuration.
