Runback Testing

The document provides guidelines for conducting various runback tests for a commissioning system, including: 1) A 2 Mill Tripping Test and tests for ID/FD, BFP, CEP, and BCW Runback as well as a PA Fan Runback Test during a scheduled shutdown. 2) The BCW Runback Test involves tripping one of two running BCW pumps to initiate runback and automatically tripping pulverizers while limiting unit capability to 300MW. 3) Manual intervention may be required for drum level, furnace pressure, and air flow controls if alarm limits are crossed during the BCW Runback Test.

GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCTING RUNBACK TESTS

Following Runback Tests are to be carried out for the commissioning of Runback
System:
2 Mill Tripping Test 1507
ID/FD Runback TestBFP Runback Test
CEP Runback Test
BCW Runback Test
PA Fan Runback Test (Can be tried during Scheduled shutdown of Unit or
Any forced outage).

1. Time required for each test is approx. 45 Minutes (Maximum)/Trial.

3. BCW Runback Test:

2 BCW pumps must be running in full load condition.
Before start of test Standby mode of inactive BCW Pump must be
disabled.
Auxiliary Pressure / CRH Line to TDBFPs, should be charged.
For safety the Drum level set point will be changed to -50mm and will
be normalized after the test has been conducted.
At the start of test one out of two surviving BCW pumps will be
tripped by operation which will initiate the Runback.
All pulverizes except bottom five in service will be tripped
automatically on Runback in Action.
Unit capability will be limited to 300 MW.
Automatic Changeover to Turbine Follow mode from CMC Mode.
Automatic changeover to Initial Pressure Mode from Load control
mode.
During BCW runback test Drum level and DP across BCW pump
has to be monitored and maintained within safe operating limit.

Manual Intervention :

1) Drum level control to be put in manual mode if Drum level crosses alarm limits
( <-175mm & > +125mm).
2) Furnace Pressure control to be put in manual mode if furnace pressure crosses
alarm limits ( <-75mmWC & > +75mmWC).
3) Air Flow control to be put in manual mode if air flow crosses alarm limits
( <800 TPH).
