The artifact is a spring conference recording sheet used to guide students in assessing their own learning and setting goals. Students fill out the sheet to lead parent-teacher conferences, evaluating their performance in subjects, strengths, and areas for improvement. They also share favorite parts of school. The teacher reflects that having students take control of conferences through the sheet highlights the importance of education and shows how their actions impact learning. It also provides students a platform to discuss interests with parents and teachers.

__X___ Strength and competency in the standard

Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:

To prepare for Spring conferences, we give the students the chance to fill out a sheet to
lead parent-teacher conferences. The students are supposed to assess their learning in
each subject, their strengths, and areas that they can improve on. They also share
some exciting parts of school such as favorite subject, friends, and memories. We also
share other forms with the parents, but this is the first form that we share because we
have student-led conferences and they enjoy sharing about their learning.

Reflection on the artifact:

I think that giving the students control in their conference, highlights how important it is
to be serious about their education. At the beginning of the year, we had multiple
discussions on setting realistic goals, and this sheet was the first reflection the students
filled out based on the goals that they initially made. It also proves to the students that
their actions will directly affect their learning. I make sure to walk the students through
each section and give them tips/reminders while completing them together.
Having the fun section on the back of the form is beneficial to everyone in the
conference. It gives the students the platform to share things about their interests. It is
beneficial for me to know what my students like to do in their time, and it can surprise
parents as well! I will be completing these next year because I think it is a great way to
lay out all of the students achievements and successes in a stress-free way.
