Vega Prof Dev Planning

The document outlines a year-long professional development plan for teachers with the following objectives: 1) Increase the use of technology in instruction; 2) Increase digital citizenship and responsibility in students; 3) Increase use of the school's learning management system (eCLASS) in instruction; and 4) Increase digital communication and collaboration among students. The plan involves creating online modules on topics like discussion boards and project-based learning. It will differentiate support based on teachers' technology skills and provide incentives like continuing education credits. Progress and effectiveness will be evaluated through surveys. The creator will also be available for additional support as teachers implement the strategies.

Steps in Designing Professional Development

You will use the following template to document the overall plan for the Module

Step Description
Assess Yourself and the I believe that professional development is very important for
Audience teachers. It is our job to continually learn new and exciting
strategies to keep students engaged and teach more effectively.
Professional development helps us do this. Overall, I am very
confident in the professional development that I have chosen for
the year-long plan. They are units that I have used in my own
classroom or studied/practiced through my grad classes. The one I
am not very confident in is PBL, however before teaching this unit,
I would explore it in detail and even come up with a few sample
units. This way, when creating material to disseminate to the
teachers, I would have a better grasp on what would be most
important to convey to them. In creating the units, I tried to think
of topics that would be helpful to all teachers in all subjects. I
think I accomplished this.

After asking around, I found that teachers were interested in how

using eCLASS discussion boards can promote digital citizenship,
collaboration and communication. They also wanted to see
examples of how teachers use it in their classroom.

Analyze the Learner There is a wide variety of learners here at the school. Some are
very competent in technology and others are not. Because of this, I
would differentiate the lessons by holding smaller meetings with
the teachers who needed the extra help, and let the more competent
teachers complete the online module. For those solely completing
the online module, I would expect them to either show me a
deliverable (how they incorporated it into a lesson or had student
use the product) and/or complete a short quiz for comprehension.
At my school, the administration is very supportive of professional
development, especially when it comes to technology. We have a
1:1 ratio of computers at the school and the administration expects
us to use them frequently to increase student learning.
Select Instructional Increase the use of technology in instruction
Objectives Increase digital citizenship and responsibility in students
Increase use of eCLASS (the schools D2L platform) in
instruction
Increase digital communication and collaboration among
students
Provide Incentives It is a requirement at our school to complete professional
development, but we also receive PLU credit for doing so.
Furthermore, many teachers here are intrinsically motivated
because they want to improve their technology use in instruction to
keep up with the students. Also, I would highlight/feature
teacher/student success from the previous months module at the
following meeting (or in the next online module).
Plan Materials and I will create a Weebly in order to organize the materials and make
Activities in Relation to them accessible from anywhere. The Weebly will have separate
Audience and Objectives pages for the different modules. It will contain all of the Word
documents, PDFs, PPT, etc. that they would need available for
download.

I would also make the documents available via the GSMST

eCLASS page in content, so they can find the documents easily.
Use Guided Practice For the discussion boards module, I will have the teachers
participate in blog discussion to collaborate with other teachers and
get a feel for how a discussion board works. Also, they will be
able to share ideas for discussion board topics. I will also have
them create a news announcement on their own page based on a
script that I give them about digital responsibility. They will just
need to copy and paste it into their news. I will provide videos on
how to do both the news announcement and the discussion board.
Evaluate the Professional I will include a google doc survey to evaluate the effectiveness of
Development Materials the module. The teachers will fill it out upon completion of the
unit.

Continue to be Available to As an LSTC (technology expert) in the school, I would be

the adults after they have available to help the teachers during their planning period or even
completed the Professional during class time as they are implementing the new tools. I would
Development Module let them know this and ask them to email me in advance so that I
can come and help them.
