Analysis of Scissor Jack

This document describes a finite element analysis of a scissor jack conducted by a group of 5 students. It includes: 1) An introduction describing scissor jacks and the purpose of analyzing an already designed scissor jack using ANSYS software. 2) Material properties of the structural steel used for all scissor jack components. 3) Analysis of the main scissor jack parts including the supporting frame, base, and two links through meshes, applied loads, and results for von Mises stress and total deformation. 4) Analysis of the full scissor jack assembly as a whole through mesh, applied load, and results for total deformation and von Mises stress.

1, INTROUDUCTION
Scissor jacks are simple mechanisms used to drive large loads over short distances in to translator
motion. Most scissor jacks are similar in design. Consisting of four main memes driven by a power screw.
The power screw of scissor jacks greatly reduce the amount of force required by the user to drive the
mechanism.
This report is about fem analysis of already designed scissor jack with a software called ANSYS. This
jack is designed for heavy duty vehicles and design load is taken 50,000 N.
