At the beginning of the cassette nothing will be recorded for 6 to7 seconds! * Each recording erases any previous recording. Accidental erasure can be prevented by breaking ‘the small tab in the top left-hand comer on the back of the cassette (see Fig. 5). This protection can be reversed with a piece of adhesive tape. * Store the cassettes at room temperature end do not put them too close to magnets and transform= ers of e.g. TVs and loudspeaker boxes. Dolby Noise Reduction system The Dolby Noise Reduction system is manufac- tured under license from Dolby Laboratories Li- “censing Corporation. The word 'Dolby' and the 00 symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Li- censing Corporation. * The system is switched on and off with DOLBY NR button @. A cassette recorded with the Dolby Noise Reduc- tion system must also be played back in the Dolby 8NNR mode. If you forget to operate the DOLBY NR button, the treble may be reproduced too strongly or too feintly. ‘Note: DOLBY NR button @ has no influence dur- ing dubbing. An original cassette recorded with Dolby NR automatically produces a copy with Dol- by NR. Connection of loudspeakers * Loudspeakers with a minimum of 8 ohms can be connected to the terminals @ (Fig. 2 and 6). * One of the two wires of a loudspeaker cable is marked, e.g. with a colour or rib. Connect the marked wire to the red terminal, the non-marked wire to the black terminal. Make sure that the colour combination of wire and terminal is exactly the same for each loudspeaker. ‘Surround sound’ ‘The amplifier has connections for four loudspeak- ers: two loudspeakers in front of the listener and ‘two rear loudspeakers for the ‘surround sound’ ef- fects. The function of the surround sound loud- speakers is to support the front sound information. Positioning the loudspeakers ‘The best position cen be found by experimenting. Bass reproduction is amplified by placing the speakers on the floor. Placing loudspeakers behind .curtains, etc. has an unfavourable effect on treble reproduction, Try to keep the arrangement as sym- metrical as possible. Record player maintenance Because self-lubricating bearings are used, the record player requires no maintenance. ‘ The stylus unit can be removed in one piece and replaced (see Figs. 7 and 8). Carefully press the front edge of the stylus unit downwards until it comes loose. Mount a‘new stylus unit by first slid- ing the rear part of the stylus unit into place. Then push the foremost part upward until you can feel and hear the stylus click into place. * The dust cover is fitted with frictional hinges. It can be set to almost any position. If this is not the case, carefully tighten the screws ®, Fig. 2. The hinges must not be lubricated! Recorder maintenance To ensure a good recording and playback quality, clean the heads @ and @, capstan © and pressure roller © after approx every 15 hours of operation (see Fig. 9}. You can use cleaning cassette SBC 114, or a piece of cotton wool dipped in alcohol. Make sure that the unit is not connected to the mains. The mechanism must not be lubricated! This uriit complies with the radio interference re- quirements as laid down in EC (European Commu- nity) regulations.
