The UK of GB and NI is situated on the British Isles.GB compares


England,Scotland and Wales together with NI it forms the UK. It includes 4
nations: the England,Scottish,Elsh and Irish people. Capitals:
London,Edinburgh,Cardiff,Belfast.
Political system: constitutional monarchy. The monarch is Queen Elizabeth
II. , shes been head of state since 1952. Her constitutional role is
symbolic, true power lies in the hands of the Prime Minister. Nothing
becomes British rule without the monarch s signature, but the Queen
would never refuse to sign a bill which has been passed by the Parliament.
The most important function of the Queen is ceremonial. The oldest son of
the English monarch is Prince of Wales.
Brexit: withdrawal of the UK from the European Union in June 2016. David
Cameron, the former PM supported continual membership, so he resigned.
The current PM is Theresa May, she was appointed by the Queen in July
2016. The PM lives at 10 Downing Street.
The British Parliament has 2 houses:
House of Lords: members are not elected
House of Commons:members are elected
Officcial currency: pound
Natinal anthem: Dod Save the Queen
National Flag: the Union Jack is a combination of three flags (Saint
Andrews cross,St.Patricks cross, St.Georges cross).
England:
Largest part of GB, 36 counties. Remarkable places: Stonehenge
(mysterious cirlce of stones from ancient times, it could be a burial place
or a monument of sun worship). Brighton,Bath,Liverpool (home town of the
Beatles).Lake District: the area inspired many of the English poets
(Shakespeare etc..).
London-tourist atractions,places of interest:
Buckingham Palace (the home and primary residene of the monarch),
Westminster Abbey (coronations,royal weddings and funerals) Tower
Bridge,Tower of London (crown jewels,in the past:prison) St Pauls
Cathedral,Trafalgar Square,Piccadilly Circus,Hyde Park,Houses of
Parliament-Big Ben,the London Eye,a lot if museums,galleries.
London icons: red-double decker buses, red telephone boxes,bobbies,royal
guards..

Wales:
Capital: Cardiff. Its a mountainous country, it has a very strong Celtic
culture.Welsh is spoken as a first language by cca 20% of the population.
Sccottland:
Capital: Edinburgh. People speak English and Gaelic. They are proud of
their culture and national heritage.
Highland Games:famous sports event
Edinburgh Festival:music,art,theatre
Military Tattoo: military parade
Scottish icons: bagpipes, kilt,tartan,haggis.Hogmanay (last day of the
year), first foot (the first person who enter to the home in the new year
,she/he brings fortune in the forthcoming year.)
