Methods For Shaft Voltage Measurement
Methods For Shaft Voltage Measurement
Measurement
IEEE Std.-115, 1995 same as IEEE 112
Method 1: Across End Shafts
Method 2: Across bearing Oil Film, Uninsulated
Bearings
At rated speed connect a low resistance conductor from shaft to
the frame of the machine at one bearing, and a low range AC Volt
meter at the ( or a high range AC Ammeter) with low resistance
leads from the shaft to the frame at another bearing. Deflection
of instrument indicates presence of a voltage that may produce
shaft currents. With no deflection, either there is insufficient
voltage present or the bearing oil film is not acting as an
adequate Insulator.
