Backfilling will be executed in layers and the thickness of the layers shall be maximum 30 cm in
height.
Paint marks could be used on back of formwork/shoring surfaces to indicate the levels of each
layers.
A routine investigation of levels of layers will be carried out by the surveying crew.
Back filling material will be filled and appropriate water quantity specified by the laboratory test
report will be added. (The existing excavated soil to be used initially until the remaining quantity is
over and then onwards sand will be used until the completion of work)
Soil will be spread in layers in accordance to the layer thickness. Each layer will be compacted
either by plate or roller compactor depending on the size of the area to be filled.
At the end of each two layers of compacted soil the sand cone test shall be carried out to
determine the compaction percentage. And test will be conducted in 3 locations per each layer of
testing. The compacted (by submerging in water) sand layers sill be subjected to visual
inspection.
Section C: Inspections
The three phases of inspection are:

the final cleaning and to check the final levels of the backfill.
5. Approved shop drawings, concrete dimension drawings and coordinate drawings are pre-requisite
documents for performing a checklist, unless having a special consent from the engineer.
