Eng. Econmomics Assignment # 1

Two engineers who work for different companies travel frequently for work to Dubai. They are evaluating whether to co-own a plane, continue flying commercially, or buy/rent an apartment. Some economic questions they should consider regarding co-owning a plane include: if their costs will decrease, how complex the co-ownership system will be, who will receive profits, what each partner's share of the plane will be, what will happen upon one partner's death, what obligations each partner will have, if they will have time for additional expenses, and who will draft a co-ownership agreement.

Co-

Two lead engineers with a Mechanical design company and structural analysis firm
work together often. They have decided that, due to their joint and frequent
commercial airline travel to a city say (DUBAI), they should evaluate the purchase of
plane co-owned by the two companies or buy/rent a two bed studio apartment. What
are some of the economic-based questions the engineers should answer as they
evaluate alternatives to

Co-own a plane or
Continue to fly commercially
Buy / rent a two bed studio apartment

own a plane
The co-ownership can halve or even quarter the cost of an ownership. This provides the
information on the tenancy of the joint tenancy. The questions that the Engineers should
answer on economic base should be:
o Will our cost decrease?
o How much complex or simple will be the system of this co-owner ship
o Who will carry the business profit?
o How much the share will we both get of this aircraft?
o To whose heir will the tenancy pass after death?
o What obligations will be there of both the co-owners?
o Will time be there for us to carry out small additional expensives?
o Who will draft an agreement of co-owner ship?

Continue to Fly Commercially

Today, on commercial aircraft, the saying is more like 'getting there is half the battle'.
