Dr. B R (Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar ) was the chiarman of Drafting Committee of Indian
Constitution
Born on 14 April 1891 Died on 6 December 1956), popularly also known as Babasaheb,
was an Indian jurist, political leader, philosopher, ,historian, , economist, teacher, and editor.
He was also the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of Indian Constitution.
Ambedkar was born in the British-founded town and military cantonment of Mhow in the
Central Provinces (now in Madhya Pradesh).[6] He was the 14th and last child of Ramji Maloji
Sakpal and Bhimabai.[7] His family was of Marathi background from the town of Ambavade
(Mandangad taluka) in the Ratnagiri district of modern-day Maharashtra. They belonged to
the Mahar caste, which were treated as untouchables and subjected to socio-economic
discrimination.
Role in drafting India's Constitution
Upon India's independence on 15 August 1947, the new Congress-led government invited
Ambedkar to serve as the nation's first law minister, which he accepted. On 29 August,
Ambedkar was appointed Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, charged by the
Assembly to write India's new Constitution
Ambedkar argued for extensive economic and social rights for women, and also won the
Assembly's support for introducing a system of reservations of jobs in the civil services,
schools and colleges for members of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes
The Constitution was adopted on 26 November 1949 by the Constituent Assembly.

The Constitution of India was enacted on 26th of January, 1950. The Constituent Assembly of India drafted the
nation's Constitution. Being drafted on 26th of November, 1949, the Indian Constitution laid the foundations for
establishment of the Democratic Republic of India.
