TYPES OF GRAPEVINE CHAINS

There are four types of grapevine chains which are as follows:

Single Strand Chain


Gossip Chain
Probability Chain
Cluster Chain
Single Strand Chain

This chain consists of one on one interaction and it flows like a chain In it A says
something to B who then pass it on to C and so on. It is the least accurate of the four
chains and with the increase of transit points the chances of distortion and deletion
increases. This chain flow in a straight direction and is transferred from an individual to
another individual thats why it has been named as single strand chain

GOSSIP CHAIN

This chain is characterized by a group of people gathering to discuss matters of mutual


interest Here one person seeks out and tells everyone the news that he or she has gathered.
It is used to transmit interesting bits of news that may not be job oriented. In gossip chain
generally one person teels about the information to everybody else.

PROBABLITY CHAIN

In this chain the message is passed on randomly without any particular direction or
method. So in probability network the individual communicates randomly on nonselective basis with other individual or a group of individuals In probability chain the
information may move from anybody to anybody.

CLUSTER CHAIN

In cluster chain or network individual communicates with only those people whom he or
she trusts which makes cluster chain or cluster network the most popular pattern followed
in the grapevine communication as the information is sent on selective basis to only to the
trustworthy members of the organization. In this first sender informs a few chosen
member or group of chosen members only, who again pass on the intended information to
individual or group of individuals of their choice or the keep the intended information to
themselves only.
