PREFACE TO STRIJATAKA ——_===== Humanity 1s divided into three grand sexual divisions Females, Males and Eunuchs Shere is also a small section culed Hermaphrodites who are neither males nor females but who partake of both charac teristics sometimes in a most pronounced form but often with apologies for sexual organs both sexual organs being 1ll developed and impotent to act mdividually In the male erection 1s needed for penetration —_In the female a certain internal adjustment is needed both for coition and also for the proper reception of the seed thrown into it by the male organ When this 1s not Properly developed, the seed cannot be received and concep ton does not take place The planetary combinations for con ception progress of the foetus, birth and life are given elabora tely in the Astrological sciences Pindotpatit, Adhyaya or Foetal development is very interesting and instructive to readers [have given it in my Brhat Jataka In this book I have chiefly con fined myself to the sketch of female horoscopes Till about the 8th year there will not be much difference between boys and girls From the 8th year a peculiar fluid begins to form both in the males and also in the females In the former the fluid 1s white or whitish yellow and in the Jatter it will begin to assume reddish color, until in the first appearances of the menses, it flows out by a physical im voluntary motion and consti tutes what may be called the puberty or first Menses In the boy the fluid grows thicker and thicker and its development depends upon various con ditions, physical mental and mora] There are some preco cious boys who can have erec tion and discharge of semen at 14 years and the seed possesses reproductive capacity Generally this age ts reached when the boy 15 18 or 20 In some boys zt will not develop properly until they are 20 or 25 or even 30 In some it will never years develop at all The last 1s exceptional Between males and females a large number of characteristics are common I have treated here the female peculrarities INTRODUCTION TO STRIJTATAKA Women never occupied an inferior Indsan society, religion, politics or spiti- tual development The sastras never called them chattels, which can be disposed of by men at their sweet will and pleasure Some of the wrongly informed and superficial women are thun dering their 1] advised orations, from the platforms and attribut- ing motives, which have never been sanctioned by the sastras or approved by the thoughtful men For abuses of pure principles the original authors certainly cannot be blamed or held responstble The Euro- pean nations are priding them- selves upon the abolishment of slavery It is in name and theory but certainly tt has no real existence in practice Take the tyranmies in offices, in the mnlitary, m large centres of manufacturies and industries and of the various rulers and Governments and honestly say if slavery has really been abo pshed and the labourers and subordinates have anything hke hberty, independence of thought position in or action What do the enor- mous strikes indicate, 1f not the blackest tyranny, dirtiest slavery and the most unsatisfactory and shameful treatment of the ul-paid subordinates by thew respective masters, and tyrants Statesmen and the pmncipal leaders cannot utter a more daring falsehood Take the lJarge numbers of divorce in the most enlightened country in the world, vzz, America. 7,00,000 divorces for a year, vz, in a few countries in the US of America are certainly tangible evidences of domestic happiness and felici- ties in the most civilised coun- tries and among the most enhghtered nations Do the advanced Indran women want these domestic comforts and these unenviable divorces Do they really know the unhappmess that prevatls in many of the European homes The hberty of a woman should never merge into the regions of license? The Hindus never treated women with ill grace The highest appointments in religion are given to the ladies in preference W INTRODUCTION TO STRIJATARA to males Brahm, Vishna and Maheswara, come after their spouses for respect and worship Vasista comes after his chaste wife Arundhati Anusuya 1s held in the highest esteem above her revered husband Attn maharisht While the Maharishis are the brightest imtellects, none of them got the post of Inspector General of Education, which enviable post, among all the 33 crores of Devatas, :s held by Saraswathi the Goddess of Learmng All hase to pray to her for progress in education ind intelligence and fall on her feet to get them Take the money power It has been granted to Matru Devo Bhisa, then comes the father, Patru Deso Bhiwa The debt to father 1s cleared by doing death ceremontes or srurd- dhain Gaya = But_ the debt to the mother will not be cleared til a man denounces the world, becomes a sanyasi and falls on her feet The ancient writers are agreed in giving the best and the highest honours to women One of the finest vedantic works hnown as Secta ramanyaneya ws given to Anja. neya by Seetha Devi, wife of Sn Rama = The prizes to the mon hey warnors of Rama after the conquest of Lanka were distrt buted in the public assembly by INTRODUCTION TO STRIJATAhA w armies to success and conquest in person Her splended adm: mistration has been installed as a model one by the great Chinese traveller Huenestang Instan- ces of courage, chastity, pru- dence and admimstratne tact and capacity have been recorded in the histones of the Marathas and the Rayaputs, of women, who have figured prominently before the public In every religious mantra and practice, the name of the women comes first and then that of her busband showing unmistakably the high rank in which women are held im India The nght side 1s always the place of the greatest honor and respect Matru Devo Bhava, Pitru Devo Bhava Sachi Purandarayanamaha, Lakshm: narayanayanamaha, —- Parvati- Parameswarayanamaha, Aron dhat: Vasistayanamaha, Seetha- tamayanamaha, Chayasuryaya namaha and so forth I can quote many instances to show that the Hindus never held their women as chattels to be disposed of but as De:tres who have given burth to men and held them m Ingh esteem, and if Dharma Raya staked his wife Draupadi inthe gambling, he did so m an unholy trade and against his Kshatrya conscience and Dharma, Whether itis Dharma Raja or anybody else, gambling has never been justified as a nghteous act by any sastras or moral religious codes He also staked his brothers, and made them ignoble and go to Agnata- vasa or state of Incognito for a long penod This was not all the folly of him He staked his own hberty and took up the disgrace- ful position of serving Virata in humble capacity The brothers and Draupadi were not bound by his stake in gambiing but they yie'ded as honorable personages to preserve the honorable pro- mise of a man in a dishonorable transaction Suppose they rebel- led and disobeyed, 1t was notin Dharma Raja’s power to compel them if they had not yielded to preserve the discipline of obedi- ence to their elder brother Draupad: was not treated asa chattel nor the four brothers of Dharma Raja Lous XI of France went to England asa prisoner voluntanly to keep up his word of honor, when the French nation did not redeem therr promise of payment of the ransome fixed His words mng ww INTRODUCTION with 1 spirit of nobilty and he observed admiration when yf honor 1s not with lings, where then could we find it I refer my readers to my articles on the superiority of women in Vol 19 of my the xssues 0} Astrological Magzine Even his best admurers cannot justify selling his prothers in the unholy trade of gambling Faults cannot become virtues simply because great men com mitted them Human beings have their merits and demerits side by side There are many women now 37 India and the world who are treating their husbands hhe chattels and worse than chattels For what can it mean else than selling their TO STRIJATARA revenge and sensual gratifier tions Wul the platform ladies examine the criminal records in the world and find out what are the basis for the ermmunal acts and what responsi bihty rests on their shoulders There 1s no use of blaming this or that sex and say these or those have been held as slaves Good people are found among both the sexes 1nd the worst cnminals are equally counted among both Women are now advancing rapidly on vanous lines and their horoscopesall over the world ire composed of varteties of temperaments The order of creation is such No one can chinge the laws of Nature and God lone must ‘INTRODUCTION TO STRIJATAKA v tite servant Manthira. There “is no use of blaming this or that section of humanity, take the world as it is, and try your best to modify the evil surround- ings and make them as good as possible. Astrology helps to read the character and fortunes of individuals. After having read them correctly, try your best to modify or avert the evil influences and turn them to your advantage by the previous knowledge of future events. Remedies are recommended by the science of Astrology and Dharmasastras and they should be adopted in all cases, where they are likely to produce beneficial results by averting and modifying the evils, As I have explained often in my writings, Astrology is a huge chemical science and the rest of the sciences are its minor branches. What are Dharma- sastras? They are completely chemical in nature. They give you strict rules for the preser- vation of good and sound health, to purify the mind, to increase and develop the spiritual and moral tendencies and thus enable the person to live happily here and secure states of bliss and final emanci- pation after death. The constel- lations, the planets, the zodia- cal signs, the Iunar and solar days, the yogas and the kara- nas are all chemical in nature and as chemical bodies they exercise their good or evil influ- ences on each other. In birth as well as in menses electrical and ethereal currents are set afloat and whenever their actions are prejudicial and injurious to mankind, remedies—chemical in nature—are prescribed to coun~- teract those evils to neutralise their effects, to produce good and thus to secure comforts and happiness to humanity. §SRIi STRIJATAKA FEMALE HOROSCOPY ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY B SURYANARAIN ROW, B14, RAS, FRHS GENERAL OBSERVATIONS CuaptTer I divided into three main divisions, 112, Mas culine, Femimne and Eunuch There are any number of sub disisions among them and the phenomena of potency or vitality among the above three classes are remarkable There are men with perfect masculine develop ment, but almost without powers of erection or penetra ton There are some women who have hardly any sexual excitements and desire for co operation They evade or reject sexual offers and appl: cations On the other hand, there are Aafumsakas or eunu chs who have strong sexual excitements and desires, but without suitab’e organs for such functions On the other hand, there are men and women, who Humanity 1s have tremendous sexual energy and who are not satisfied with ordinary sexual embraces and seek gratification even in unna tural ways Some men and women have no inclination for sexual congress There are some who have the development of the masculine and feminme organs m a mild form, and there are a few who have these two organs m good perfection, so much so that as females they have regular menses and at the same time as males, they have enjoyment with other females Cases, where such beings haying fully developed male and female organs in one and the same person, hase been brought to notice both by medical practi tioners and iso by the general public at different times But, whether such Ardha Nanswaras 2 both man and woman together developed in one and the same body, has ever become pregnant and brought forth issues, has not been recorded ‘There are some more peculiar phenomena among human beings, which deserve special mention here. While we were about 16 years old, a man was introduced to us by our elder paternal uncle. Venhatesayya who was Sher- stedar at Chichballapur near Bangalore as Obalachan, who had been Obalamma_ before. The facts were these He was born as a girl in a poor but res- pectable Brahmm family, and was married in his 9th year toa Brahmin youth of twenty = Tull then the development of ali organs were strictly femimne, otherwise there could not hase STRIJATAKA of feminine sexual organ, but a fully developed = mascu- tine organ, the marriage yas cancelled and Obalachar marnied a girl, and had several children from her. One of his sons became an Amuldar im the Mysore service, and there are now some grand-children of Obalachar formerly Obalamma We could not believe sucha story but not only our uncle vouched the truth of this, but Obalachar himself confirm. ed the same Our uncle had gone to the marnage of Obalam- ma first and then agam to his marnage when he became Oba- lachar. The history written by an Androgine and published by the Medico Legal Journal con- firms such instances Only the other day a bull was brought to for 4 STRIJATAKA If the Lagna and Chandra fall in odd signs, she will be mascu- line in appearance and temper, bad character, sorrowful, if these two Lagna and Chandra are combined with or aspected by cruel planets, her character vall be bad and sinful In jadging of these results the astrologer has great difficulties and has to use much discretion in predicting the results Take some 1ilustrations Kataka 1s Lagna, with Kuya there and as- pected by Sam. Lagna 1s even and the gurl ought to be good, but the presence of Kuya in de- bilitation with the aspect of Sam will make her a whore and of bad character. There are some women, bad 1n morality but otherwise respectful and agreeable in behaviour, There are some others who are moral gems, but disrespectful and quarrelsome in behasiour = In the above case say Chandra 1s they do m Kataka Kataha as Lagna with Kua and Guru with Sant and Ravi, with Sukra and Sam, with Kua and Sukra, with Rahu and Ravt, with Kethu and Chandra will and must produce certainly different re- sults Suppose Mesha as Lagna with Sam and Kua, Sant and Rahu, Sam and Guru, Sant and Chandra and Sam and Sukra, they will produce characteristics of a different hind and the student, should be very careful in his predictions Take Kataha as Lagna with Guru mit He will be in exaltation, and if he has no evil aspects he will produce a woman of great majesty, excell ent character, virtuous beha- yrour and generous disposition Suppose Makara is Lagna Here both Kataha and Mahara are even signs and in_ both we have Guru the most beneficia] among the plinets But in Makara, Gurn is debilitated STRIJATAKA 5 the sign will not be so powerful Mahara 1s an evil sign by nature and Guru there 1s bad both because Mahara 3s an evil sign and also because Guru is in debilitation Suppose Thula becomes Lagna with Sami init and Mesha becomes Lagna with Sami in it The difference im the character and behaviour of the girl will be very great Saya female is adul terous and objectionable but will have the knack to treat her husband with apparent love and consideration and thus give no room for complaint as a wife, then he thinks he is happy But if the woman 1s adulterous and tikes a defiant stand to her husbind, admits her lovers in his presence and causes him great discomfort and pain There 1s some difference between the two women, although morally both are bad = Take a woman, not givcn to much adultery, but attached to one bad man, and tries to poison or hill her hus- band = Her chiracter 15 certain- ly reprehensible and she cannot be classed with the other two Therefore, in judging of plane- tary influences, great discretion must be used, Odd signs are cruel or Nara- rasis or masculine Even signs are mild, feminine or strirasis When both Chandra and Lagna fall in odd signs and evil planets occupy or aspect them, the nature of the woman will be thoroughly bad. Even among cruel or odd signs there 1s, and there must be great difference in producing the evil effects Mesha, Mithuna, Simha, Thula, Dhanas and Kumbha are odd and cruel signs, but they are owned by malefic and benefic planets, Mesha, ts ruled by Kuja, Mithuna by Budha, Simha by Rast Thula by Sukra, Dhanas by Guru and Kumbha by San, When the Lagna of a gurl falls in any one of them or Chandra occupies any one of these, her charactenstics, will differ Cuapter III. + Charactertsires of Girls The characteristics of girls all over the world are characte- tised by a surpnsing and won- derful variety and these are accounted for by the permuta- trons and combinatrons of Rasis constellitions, planets and the various states ascribed to these in different places Take Anes, 6 STRIJATAKA Kuja im its first degree 1s not the same as when he ts in the second Ravi in the first degree of Mesha ts not the same as Raxiin the 10th or 30th degree of that sign Similarly every planet in every sign has chinges m nature in cach degree «ind the Bhava or signification it occupies These wonderful varieties of planets m deg- tees, Bhavas and signs ac- count for the endless yanet> we find in the bad or good nature minute points The mathema- tical portion of Astrology be- comes an absolute necessity, when the planets have tobe taken im their various divisions and degrees they occupy These delicate demarkations should be carefully studied and specially remembered in predicting the fortunes of girls, their personal appearances modesty, dignity and other characteristics: We shall nau txkhe the readers to Thrimsamsas whose STRIJATAKA 9 Carrer IV Precautions in Predictions. The readers attention 1s drawn to certain facts in mahing predictions about the character of women There are many de lieacies which should be parti- cularly noted In the above paras the expression used 1s “af Chandra or Lagna” falls in soandso Chandra and Lagna may fall in one and the same sign or each may fall in a differ- ent house Now let us tahe first Chandra in Vrishabha He 1s exalted there, and the sign itself is a beneficial and mild one owned by a benefic planet Sukra =A wonnn born when Kuyja Th mses in Vrishabha becomes a bad one If Mesha has Lagnt or Chin- dra in it and Kuya Th rises, the womn will have sexual connec- tion before her marriage Chan- dra ant Vesht 1s mot as goad as hetsin Viishtbha, Mesha isa masculine sign and its Lord Kuyrisan oil phinet = Take Ligm or Chandra in Vrischtha Chandra here is in debilitatron and if Kuji Th mses, the gurl will Rave connection before taurnge Then whit is the difference between Kuya Th rising when Chandra 1 in Mesha Vrishabha or Vrschika In these three cases the girl be- comes adulterous Astrology Jays down this result But the Astrologer must make some difference even in such cases of adultery A woman sleeps with a rich and agreeable sort of man, she yields her embraces to an ordinary man under passion be- fore marriage, she will commit adultery with a street beggar out of yiolent passion In all these cases the gitl is guilty of immoral acttons But even then there is some difference A wo- man gomg wrong after marrage and before marriage, after pu- bert and before puberty, and with a rich man and a poor beggar cannot and will not hase the same sins or same happiness The impulses will not be the same and the measure of ples sure and profit will considerably differ Suppose Sim 1s also m Mesha with Chandra, and both oceupy the Kuya Th The girl with commit adultery with a dirty and sorrowful loafer in the street Suppose Chandra isin Kataha with Guru there “STRIJATAKA il husband will be learned and intellectual If Kataka or that Navamsa rises at birth the hus- band will be immoral and cym- pathetic. If Dhanas or Meena rises at birth or that Navamsa, the husband will be blessed with good behasiour and will be highly moral and virtuous If the 7th Navamsa rises im Sumha or Simha becomes 7th house, the husband will become engag- ed in various commercial con- cerns and will be immoral CHAPTER V Sources of Strength and Weakness In all these cases predictions should be bised on a careful anlyses of the various sources of strength and weakness of the plinets If Mesha rises as the 7th Navamsa and 1s occupied by Guru, or if 1t rises with Sani in it or Kuya or any other planet the results will vary with the nature of the planet Mesha Navamsa my rise as the 7th in Thula Lagna and Vrisehika Navamsa will nse as the 7th in Vnishabha Lagna In other Lag- nas, Mesha and Vrischika will not tise asthe 7th Navamsa If Lag- na falls inany sign, there must be some sign which occupies the house and some Navam- sa must rise as the 7th Out of the 7th house and the 7th Navamsa, find out which 1s stronger and ascribe the results to it But in doing so, there will be a tinge of the 7th house as Navamsi, which 1s weaker Suppose Kataka falls as 7th and 1s occupied by Kuyi and Kataka Navamsa rises with Guru init Here:t will be seen, that between the 7th house and the 7th Navamsa, the Navamsa 1s stronger, and the Rast ss wealer The results for the 7th Navamsa should be predicted in preference to 7th Rast Inall these cases great patience, laborious calcu- Jations, high deligence, and ex- cellent analysing power should be brought to bear on the subject, mn order to arrive at correct results Haste, and want of patient labour, will bring the man and his noble science to rum and disgrace I shall now try and gue some mixed results If a weak evil planct occupies the 7th hovse from Lagna the woman will have no issues If evil planets occupy the 7th house she be comes a widow. If evil and 12 good planets occupy the 7th she will neglect the first husband and marry a second one If Mesha, Viischtha, Makara or Kumbha becomes Lagna, com- bined by Chandra and Suhra the girl becomes adulierous along with her mother [f there are no planets in the 7th from Lagna or Chandra, and the house 18 not powerful and has no benefieal conjunctions or as- pects, the husband becomes a mean and hateful fellow. If the 7th from Lagna er Chandra 3s occupied by Sani or Budha the husband will become impotent STRIJATAKA soon after marrage If Sam oc- cupies the 7th with evil aspects the woman will be unmarried if Chandra and Suhra are in the birth, the woman becomes me1n, jealous and fond of happiness Tf Budha and Chandra occupy Lagna she wil be well shilled m music and arts, will have good children, will be happy, and prosperous. If Sukra and Budha occupy Lagna, she wil be agreeable, prosperous, well skilled in music and fine arts The highest pleasure for man inthis world 1s to havea obe- dient, modest, loving, virtuous, STRIJATAKA~ Cuapter VI Beneficial Aspects and Conjunctions If beneficial planets, viz ,Full- moon, well associated Mercury, Jupiter and Venus occupy Lagnay she will have money, gocd clothes, ornaments, agreeable temper and attractive persona lity, happiness and prosperity If est] planets, the Sun, weak Moon, badly associated Mercury, Mars, Rahu, Sani and Kethu occupy the Lagna, she will have the opposite results, vs, dis agreeable personality, repulsive manners, poverty, short and unpleasant temper and misery Full-moon and well associated Mercury are classed as benefics But when the Moon is weak like on a New-moon day and Mercury with Rabu, Sam, Mars and Kethu, he 1s said to be evil Here great differences must be made in the results Suppose Kanya 1s Lagna with Budha and Sans and Meena as Lagna with them The results will be and must be different In Meena Budha 1s debilttated, and with Sam, he will give bad results In Kanya hes exalted and with Sani he will give better results 13 Suppose in Kanyn they are jomed by Guru and so alco in Meena, there will be difference mresults If Sukra jos them in Kanya or Meena the results will be quite different Inastrolo gy, 1t is no joke tomahe correct predictions, for, the astrologer has to remember all such details, anly se them as best ashe could, balance the conflicting evidence, combine theory and practice, use common sense and itelli- gence, study the eny:ronments of the parties, consrder the loctl, the pohtical, the social and the reli gious conditions and then, after summernsing all these, dran reasonable conclusions and mthe predictions with care and cau tion If Lagna is occupied by Chandra, Budha and Suhr or by Budha, Guru and Sukra she will have excellent chiracter, be happy learned, inteliigent, polite, attractive and command the services of servants If Chandra and Sukra are in Lagna she will be imtable, fond of hippi ness and hive many gojd orna ments If Lagna has Budha or Guru and Sukra, she will he shilful in arts, fond of happiness and attractne If Budha and Chandra are in Lagna, she will 14 be happy ind blessed with child ren If Guru occupies Lagny she will be very welthy and will have sons and grand child ren If Kany’ or Mithunvrises as Lagm and Chindr and Sukri ve there, she w ill be fond of hippiness will have 7 ten dency to quarrel with her hus band and will hyve free move ments The hitter mens 1 suppose she will be free with other men Quurels are not hippy signs of domestic felicity lf Budhi Guru and Suhr nre powerless if Sam has middle strength and Ravi Chandm and Ruyja are powerful and the Ligm falls in an odd sign the girl will be masculine in tempe rament and behaviour will be free in her sexu ul intercourse STRIJATAKA Lagna falls in an even sign if the powerful Guru, Budha or Sul rt joins with Chaindra im any sign, she will have religious wdom and philosophic Inowledge, insi,,ht into many serences and will become famous Tf Ligni or Chindra 1s) betwixt powerful evil planets she will hive al her wants supphed by her prrents ind she will cwuse ex tinction of her ftther in laws house the 6th and there is one evil and one benefic in Lagny the girl will become 1 Vishakanya Jé 1 girlis born on the and of a Lunar month which fills ona Saturday with the constellation Auslesha ruling on that day or tf the lunar day is 7th fallin, on Tuesdiy ind Sitibhishr ruling If two plinets 1re in STRIJATAKA femmune planets and evil planets occupy Kendras, the girl will have two husbands If Sam and Chandra oceupy a movable sign aspected by Sukra, her husband will be fond of other women, fickle minded and born of adultery This mevns that ms mother 1s immoz ral and he is not the son of his reputed or registered father If Sant occupies an even sign and the 7th ws occupred or aspected by a benefic, her husband will be respected by the govern ing bodies and will be agreevble and happy Jf Chandra and Sukra occupy the 7th the husband will be old If seventh 1s occupied by evil planets she will become a widow, early mhfe If Ravi occupt es the 7th aspected by an un friendly planet she will be neg- jected by her husband = If Kujr occuntes 7th and has the aspect of an unfriendly planet, she-will become a widow, in early life Hf Sani occupies 7th with un frienly aspect, she becomes a young widow and will live asa widow till oldage Ifthe 7th is occupied by good and evil pla- nets, she will become adulterous 15 If 7th is an evsl sign and is occupied by Sani and Kuja, she becomes a widow, very early in hfe If Kuja with an evil pla net joms 12th or 8th and Lagna 1s occupied by Rahu she will become a widow and immoral If Lagna 1s occupied by Ravi or Kuja, she becomes poor If Ravi, Kuya and Rahn occupy Lagna, she becomes a widow and immoral _ If these combine with Sukra, she will be fond of her husband There are extra- ordinary women who although they become widows at a very early age, preserve their chastity and command the highest res pect from all classes of people They are domestic gems If there 1s an evil planet in the 8th from Lagna and when the sub period of the lord of the Navamsa, occupied by that planet occurs after the marriage, her widowhood should be pre- dicted If the 2nd 1s occupied by benefics and the 8th by malefies, she will die before her husband Such a death 1s coveted by all good women and that state of marital life goes under the name of Sumangalz If evil planets occupy 8th, the 16 woman becomes a widow If there 1sa malefic in the 8th and a benefic occupres Kumbha she dies before her husband If Lagna has evil and good planets and the second has benefics her death occurs before her husband If Lagna falls im Simha, Vrishabha or Viischhha she will have fewissues If malefics occupy 7th and 9th houses, she will become a sinyasin or one who renounces the world. If the Sun, with all the auspicious Shadsergas, occupies the 3rd and Saturn 1s placed in the 6th, the woman becomes the wife of a raler, will be fond of righteous conduct and will be loving her husband and beloved by him 14 If the Sun cecupies Mesha his sign of exaltation with all the auspicious Shadvergas, aspected or conjomed by benefics and the birth falls ma fixed sign, the girl will become a queen and will command many elephants, horses and conveyances 15 If Lagna falls in Kanya with Budha combmed there, Guru in the 11th, Sukra in the 2nd and Poorna Chandra in the 10th, she will become the wife of amighty emperor and will be anempress She will be chant able, generous, blessed with sympithetic speech, virtuous and helpful to the poor and the distressed She will be a grand woman in every way She will command the respect of all and will have great reputation as 2 benevolent and religtous lady 36 Cuapter NIT Saubhagya Yogas 1 If the Jord of 7th yoins Lag with its lord and is aspected by Sukra 2 If the lord of 7th occupies the 7th and joins the Lord of Lagna, and 1s aspected by Guru and Chandra 3H the Jord of 7th jons earita tion, and the lord of Lagna occupies Lagna 4 1f the Lord of Lagm occupies deep exaltation and uf the Lord of 7th aspects 7th and benefics occupy endms 5 H the lord of 7th joins exal tation, in hts own houses, Moolathril onts and vuspicious Stndveras STRIJATAKA surroundings These are pecu har to wominiind (see my History of Nerbhagya) Sahacharya Yogas 1 Ifthe lord of 7th occupies 6th or ifthe lords of 6th and 7th are combined in 12 or if they are mm one Navims? or in one constellation 2 Vf the Jord of 7th yoms Lim, if the lord of 6th combines in 12, or 7, and hue mutual aspects or, are combined in one Navimst 3 Ifthe lord of 7th 1s Chandet and joins the Last Nayimsa and is aspected by the lord of the 6th STRIJATAKA marnes such a woman or one who 1s born to such a woman may reap the highest blessings No gem can adorn a min or woman, more than their love, morility and chastity The present combinations of planets are dmving ont such human beings, year after year mto the back ground Maternal civihsa tion accounts much for ths state Ear money by anv means 1s the motto Vydbavyayoga or Widowhood For a_ respectable, flowing, chaste and modest woman, nothing can be more dreadful than the loss of her lawful lord, and this 1s spectrally held in great fear among the higher crste Hmdao women For an adul terous unsympathetic, immoral and quarrelsome gui, nothing can give her greater pleasure than the death of her husband atan euly age This event gives her greater hberty and license for her immoral behasiour and independent conduct and she wall be only too gladto do what she Ithes Whidowhood, therefore 1s an exent, which is looked at from virious mentalities I give here the most formidable com linations for the widowhood 37 We hnow there are some angelic and modest women who love ther husbands more than a Deity and we also hnow there are some who treat their hus bands with the greatest con tempt There are some dirty women, who conspire with thei lovers, and poison and kill their husbands There are some godly women, who cannot brook the idea of widowhood, and even kill themselves before their husbands Human Psychology 1s a great puzzle 1 If the lords of 7 and 8 join and occupy the 8th, aspected by evil planets there will be widowhood 2 If Rahu joms the 7th, of the lord of 7th has conjunction with Ravi and has the aspect of the lord of the 8th, widow hood will befall 3. If the lord of 7 combines with Sam, ts aspected by Kuya, Chandra and Rahn are in the 8th, there will be widowhood 4 If Kujais in 8 in combina tion with the lord of 8th, and Lagna falls in an evil Navamsa, widowheod will be fal] on her 3 Tf Rahn combines with Sam and Ikuja and joins 7th or 8th STRIJATAKA romantic, mteresting and ims- tructive A poor girl, marries a poor man and he dies and she lives to along term of widow- hood. A girl marnes an ordi- nary man, and lives with hin for some years agreeably, then she becomes a widow and may have to live on reduced circum stances A wicked girl marnes an old but mch man and be- comes a widow after the marn- age She leads quite acom- fortable and jolly life with a large gstate for her, pleasurable expenses A woman voluntarily becomes a widow by despatch- ing her Jegal lord to an early grave Some do not like scand- als Others take delight only in the midst of scandals Some remain maidens, though they are greatly dangerous to society The proverb old maids are most dangerous, 1s well founded on facts Sexual passions are imperious sensations and they seeh satisfaction under the most honourable as well as under the most dishonourable condt- trons Somc lay down their hves for the sake of chastity and honour, while others, cut. the throats of others for the sahe of their bestral sexual gratificanons 39 The History of Prostitution written by the American com- pany of medical men, from the earhest times 15 a curious narra- tion of how men and women have behaved and what dis- graceful excesses they have com- mitted in the name of love and sexual passions Strict, moral disciphne and good early sur- roundings from the earltest times of children will have some good effect on their subsequent con- duct Platonic love is a mental hallucrmation that has no practical existence with many Puberty and Menses. For a male, the Janma Lagna 1s sufficient for all purposes and there 1s no particular time at which any event Itke puberty or menses in a woman, can happen to him Among the generality of womankind, they are considered fit for sexual enjoyments only after they attain puberty There are, of course, some wicked and crooked girls, who resort to sexual indul- gences even before they have menses, but these cases arise more from morbid sexualhty, than the real desires of physical promptings These are trained 40 inthe dens of iniquity, decoyed into evil habits by dirty muds, or old prostitutes and some of them are also spoiled euly in life by the constant evil com pany of unprincipled boys even before they attun the proper age of majority Fora woman we have to take into considera tion three important Lagnas, yi ,Janma Lagna or the ascend- ant at birth, the Lagna for the first appearance of the menses in her and the Lagna or the sign in which she has the first sexual contict with the man, be he, her husbind or lover or raper All the astrological writers in Sanshnit have attached the greatest importance to the ap- pearance of the first Menses in a girl, so much so that not only have they explamed the influen ces of the constellations, signs, planets, qunar and solar days, speertl occasions and appearan- ces of phenomena, echpses and omens, but they hue alsa dahormtely cxphuned about the direction, the pliee, the cloth, the time, the number of drops of menstrual fluid which has come out, ind also about week days, yorss, Farinas and other neenlantics connected with the STRIJATAKA appearnnees of the first Menses One would be surprised to see such a 1 ist and elabortte litert- ture about 1 natura event like the menses 1n 1 girl, of they had not by their Divya Dresit or Divine Vision, seen the subtle influences of all these on the future destimes of herself, her husbind, her children and all that pertuns to her career and prospects in life This one point should effecturlly seu the months of all those ul informed and superficially reid critics that the noble science of Astrology hid never been bor- rowed from any foreign nition, that all these ideas expluned here ire completely indigenous and that 4 Ines of sutras sprang up, from the comprehensive brams of the Moharishis and that India, 1s 1 whole, hid never the misfortune to borrow her scientific ders and rese iches, from the surrounding mations who hive always been ina hope less condition of intellectual posaty, but who were cver greedy to borrow from, but never had the meins to lend to the Indi scholars EL ave they any references to such cvents If ther astrolozical pubhientions ? STRIJATAKA Have they suggested any reme dies for averting, softemmg or modifying the planetary influ ences indicating the evil results from the past births Can their hillocks be compared to the gtand Himalayn ranges? Can any other river in the world claim rivalry with the purities of the Ganges floods? So many details and with surprising munuteness about the appearan ces of the first Menses hve been given that I would earnestly request the readers to pay parti cular attention to them and apply them all practically to the time given for the menses, so that they may be able to draw proper inferences and make correct future predictions about the girl and all her prospects in fife I challenge, if any astrological pubhcations in England, Con timental countries or America, have given any references to these details or even to this subject of the appearance of the first Menses If only we are wilkng to collect all the stanzas bearing on this particular subject of menses, they will it least come up to 10,000 verses The dabbling 1nd shallow brained eritics cinnot commit a more 41 grotesque blunder than to say that the great grind father of achildis the offsprng of that infant Sane men take a hearty laugh over these idiosyncra cies and let these egotists to dance im their own hallucina changing the whole of her future hfe accord ing as 1t appears on an auspici ous or inauspicious ume The details are very interesting and instructive and throw a flood of light on the subtle ifluences, which mark that event and which have such a direct influ ence on the future destiny of the girl Puberty in Sanskrit 1s called Reihz or phenomenon winch will have regular monthly appearances When Chandra 1s not im upachayas, viz, 3, 6,10 and 11 and when the Lagna is powerfully aspected by Kuya the appearance of first Menses should be predicted Such com binations may occur when the gitlis young, when she 1s old, when she suffers from various 42 diseases which cause irregular menses or stop them altogether But there we special combinr tions with which menses appeir and also disappear I Among many of the animals, there ire instinctiye smpulces in misculine and femmine crea tures which restrict the sexu enjoyments and they preserve good health, beciuse they hare the gift of nature,
