1. CREATION OF COLD CHAIN CAPACITY
Completed 44 projects under cold chain scheme in the tenure of new government
Cumulative increased capacity in our cold storage, control/modified atmosphere storage and deep freezer by 3.01
Lakh MT upto May, 2016 of 81 completed Cold Chain Projects
Added capacity of 70.25 MT/hour for Individual Quick Freezing, 27.30 Lakh liter/day of milk storage and 404
Reefer Carriers of 81 completed cold chain projects upto May, 2016
2. MEGA FOOD PARK IS NOW A REALITY
In principal approval accorded to 16 new MFPs: Final approval accorded to 15 MFPs
6 MFPs operationalized - Tumnkur(Karnatka), Fazilka (Punjab), Nalbari (Assam), Khargone (Madhya Pradesh),
Ranchi (Jharkhand), Murshidabad (West Bengal)
30-35 units per MFP envisaged with cumulative investment of around Rs. 250 crore and annual turnover of Rs.450 to
500 crore
Direct and indirect employment to 5,000-6,000 persons and benefit to 25,000-30,000 farmers per MFP
expected
3. INCENTIVES FOR INVESTMENTS
We have brought down excise duty on food processing and packaging machinery from 10% to 6% in 2014-15 budget
Excise duty and custom duty have been reduced to 6% and 5% respectively on refrigerated containers in 2015-2016 budget
Services on pre-conditioning, pre-cooling, ripening, waxing, retail packing, labelling of fruits and vegetables has been exempted from
service tax in 2015-16 budget

4. ENCOURAGING ENTREPRENEURS WITH AFFORDABLE CREDIT


A special fund of Rs. 2000 crore in NABARD has been created to provide affordable credit for food processing units in
the designated Food Parks
Food & agro-based processing units and cold chain have been classified under agriculture activities for priority
sector lending

5. MAKING BUSINESS EASIER


We have reduced the requirement of supporting documents such as affidavits agreements etc. to be submitted with a
proposal
Online application for financial assistance under various schemes to be introduced shortly
6. CREATING THE FOOD MAP OF INDIA
Identifying surplus and deficient areas of various agricultural and horticultural produce in the country.
It will help us in planning processing clusters by means of setting up suitable facilities in different parts of India.
The map is available on the Ministry's website.
7. BOOSTING OUR POTENTIAL WITH SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Sectoral skill council on food processing has been operationalized by FICCI. Draft National Occupational Standard
and Qualification Packs developed for 55 job roles. NIFTEM is developing course and training material including
audio-visual aids. NIFTEM is a training partner of FICSI and rolling out training as per norms of PMKVY
