Rules of Transformation

The document outlines various rules of transformation including reflection and rotation. It describes: 1) Four types of reflection - over the x-axis, y-axis, y=x line, and y=-x line. 2) Three types of rotation - 90°, 180°, and 270° counter-clockwise. 3) Reflection over lines x=h and y=k, where the formulas for changing x and y are provided.

Rules of transformation

Rules of Reflection
1. Reflection over x axis
X stays the same and y changes.
Ex: A (2,3) ------------ A(2, -3)

2. Reflection over y axis

Y stays the same and x changes
Ex: B ( -2, -5 )---------------- B (2, -5)

3. Reflection over y = x
Switch x and y
Ex: C( 2, -4) --------- c(-4,2)

4. Reflection over y = -x
Switch x and y and change their sign
Ex: A (3, -6) ---------- A (6, -3)

Rules of Rotation
1. 900 counter clockwise rotation
Switch and change the new x
Ex: A (-5, -8)------------- A (8,-5)

2. 1800 rotation
Change the sign of x and y
Ex: P (-9, 6) ----------- P (9,-6)
3. 2700 counter clockwise or 900 Clockwise
Switch and change the sign of new y
Ex: M(-7, -5) ----------- M (-5,7)
Reflection over x=h (#)

Y stays the same and x changes by the formula: 2(h-x)

Ex: A(5, 3) Reflection over x= = -1 A: (2(-1)-5, 3) A (-7,3)
Reflection over y=k(#)
Rule: X stays the same y changes by the formula 2(k)-y
