Dear Mrs. Thacker,
As the seventh largest automobile manufacturer in the world, it is hard to ignore the success
of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. With the variety of brands, ranging from Dodge and Chrysler, to
Fiat and Alfa Romero, FCA is as diverse as it is innovative. The focus on sustainability and the
circular economy of recycling is something that I respect and admire. All that FCA has to
offer in these respects and more makes me very interested in the opportunity to contribute
my talents to your company in the form of the Powertrain Engineering Internship. As a
motivated and inspired Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Computer Science student with
real-world experience in both fields, and a vested interest in FCA and the auto industry, I feel
I can lend my skills and experience to working with an innovative team to solve real-world
challenges.
One of my previous experiences was at Harman Beckers automotive infotainment division in
Farmington Hills, MI. In my position as an intern, I worked with many of the electrical
engineers and was introduced to many of the fundamentals of vehicle electronics, including
GPS and car audio. I also learned about QA and testing procedures and their importance to
the auto industry. My educational background in both electronics and computers helped me
to learn valuable information about how hardware and software interact to operate a vehicle
and how this is fundamental to a vehicles function for everything from the engine to the
radio. I feel this experience is the most relevant to this position, but my other work
experiences each offer valuable skillsets as well.
At ESS, I use my skills to read schematics and diagnose and repair faulty systems and
components, which I think would be a valuable skill for this position. At Batteries Plus, I dealt
with customers directly to work with them to find a solution to their specific problem. This
experience helped to develop my interpersonal and technical communication skills, both of
which are a necessity for this position. Finally, at Fitzpatrick Manufacturing, not only was I
introduced to the important fundamentals of CNC manufacturing, but also the concept of
"lean" manufacturing which teaches the values of efficiency and sustainability and aligns
with your companys values.
In school, I have had many experiences in collaboration with others through group activities
and projects, which have improved my ability to work as part of a team, both in leader and
member roles. Additionally, my coursework in EET and computer science has introduced me
to many important concepts and programs, like electronics theory and practice and
programming. Also, technical communication courses have allowed to effectively
communicate technical language. I feel this knowledge as well as my experiences will allow
me to make valuable contributions to the FCA team. For further information regarding my
skills and experience, please refer to the attached resume.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I look forward to hearing from you
and would like the chance to discuss this opportunity further. Please feel free to contact me

using the information below with any questions, comments, or concerns regarding my
application.
Sincerely,
Tim Jacobs
