THE ADOBETM ACROBATTM READERTM WINDOW

The ICS Telecom 4 Reference Manual.pdf file is displayed in the AdobeTM AcrobatTM ReaderTM window.
This window is made up of three main zones :
- A tree zone
- A document display zone
- A tool bar

The tree zone displays the list of the topics contained in the document. It gives direct access to the page or to the
document linked to the topic.
The document zone displays the document in full page display mode. This mode can be modified using the
display mode tools.
The tool bar offers several tools allowing to modify the display of the document (zoom, full page or page width
modes, next or previous view, next or previous page) and to access the AdobeTM AcrobatTM SearchTM tool.

THE ADOBE ACROBAT SEARCH TOOL

This tool allows to search a word in all documents included in the ICS Telecom 4 index.
Select the

tool, then type the word you want to find.

A list of results is displayed at the end of the research. It gives all the documents that contain the word.
Click in the list over the document you want to read. The document is loaded and displayed on screen.
You can reopen the list of Search results via the

tool.

From this document, you can access any other document you need to read, by selecting it in the document itself.
A general index allows you to search any words in all documents making up the Reference manual.
By clicking (8 left button) over one topic of the Tree zone in the ICS Telecom 4 Reference manual.pdf document,
you will access the page of the general contents that contains the selected topic.
Then click (8 left button) in the Document display zone over the specific topic you need to reach. The document
that treats the topic will be loaded and displayed on screen.

THE UPDATE OF THE MANUAL

A distinct document enumerates the modifications done and new functions implemented in the version 4.70 of
ICS Telecom.
The document 'v4-7 - Modification and News' found in the ICS Telecom 4 - Reference manual\help directory of
the CD--Rom is linked to the Reference manual and to the related documents describing the functions, commands,
and dialogue boxes.

ACCESS TO THE MODIFICATIONS AND NEWS DOCUMENT

- In the left part of the Acrobat window, the link 'Modifications and new functions - version 4-7' access the
document -- simply click on the link to open the document.
- In the contents of the Reference manual,

SECTION 5 THE TOOLS

The functions in ICS Telecom are organised into 13 Popup Menus. Each Popup Menu gives access to a submenu containing the functions. The symbol indicates the access to another sub-menu containing the options.
A function label followed by three dots indicates that a dialogue box associated with the function is to follow:
specific boxes (Print box, Propagation model box...), or Input box, File box...
A colour code is used to indicate the accessibility and differences of functions:
- colour black: accessible function or option at this time
- colour grey: inaccessible function or option at this time
The accessibility of functions and options depends on the objects present on the terrain, and on the activated
modes.
To access the functions, slip the mouse along the menus, and click (8 left button) the mouse directly over the
entitled function or option.

NEWS
+ RECT Tool : new function suppress vector (modifies only the binary file)
+ Functions add vector point/text/polyline/rectangle modify only the binary vector file. To
update the .vec vector file, save it via the FILES/SAVE/save vector file option.
+ Print legend : no automatic update if the layer is the same as printed previously
+ New POINT option report / frontier coordination : this function draws a terrain profile
(path radio mode) from the selected element until n kilometres above the 1st frontier that
has been crossed in a defined axis (Profile mode) or generates a coverage around the
selected element from min angle to max angle limited for each axis to n kilometres above
the 1st frontier that has been crossed (Coverage mode). If the clutter layer contained in the
project does not include the frontier, the dialog box allows to import an ascii vector file
(.vec) that will write in the clutter layer the frontier line in code 19. In the Profile mode
and in the Coverage mode, the distance max variable allows to limit the drawing of the
coverage or the profile. After the import of the frontier line in the clutter layer, it is possible to save the clutter using the save clutter function. If the clutter file does not include
the frontier line, the calculation is done up to the max distance or to the end of the file
(Note : this function allows to calculate the coverage and the profile site by site)
+ Ground occupancy : code 19 is used for the frontier coordination. (See the modification
of the ground occupancy parameters box)
+ Profile : frontiers (clutter code 19) are displayed as pink vertical lines in the profile.
= Subscribers interference reports have been improved.
+ Subscriber database / Object filters and Station database : new filter allowing to search
multi-channels frequencies.

Tx composite coverage + C/I (station color)
This option calculates (as the Tx composite coverage + C/I option do) the
composite coverage + the protection ratio (according to the reference jamming
frequency) of the stations that are selected in the database. The result is a
site coverage color of the station that has at each point the weakest field
strength to be protected
Ex : For a threshodl of 54 dBV/m
Station A (100 MHz) = 56 dBV/m
Station B (100.1 MHz) = 70 dBV/m
Station C (100.2 MHz) = 60 dBV/m
Jamming frequency = 100 MHz
The field strength emanating from each station is modified as follows:
a) C/I between 100 MHz and 100 MHz station A = 36
b) C/I between 100 MHz and 100.1 MHz station B = 12
c) C/I between 100 MHz and 100.2 MHz station C = 6
Station A coverage is displayed for a threshold of (54-36) = 18
Station B coverage is displayed for a threshold of (54-12) = 42
Station C coverage is displayed for a threshold of (54-6) = 48
At each P point of the terrain, the field strength that is kept is MIN(FldA,
FldB, FldC)
In the "station color" option, the map display is of color type of the station
that gives MIN(FldA, FldB, FldC).

each point of an ascii file (name,X,Y,code) the aggregate of fields (dBV/m and
dBm) emanating from active transmitters
+ New subscriber interference function : To all subscribers (C/I)...
with C = received power from the parented station
and I = sum of the received powers from the non-parent stations
(all frequencies) and from the parented station (at different frequencies
that the one use by the subscriber). To obtain correct results with this
function, the Frequencies of each parented subscribers have to be previously
assigned using the "Dispatch frequencies to parented subscribers..." function.
Note : this function (and the "To non-parent subscribers (min C/I)..." function)
updates the C/I value of the subscriber (in the subscriber list and on the
terrain)
Reminding : the difference of C/I value obtained with these two functions is
explained as follows:
- the "To non-parent subscribers (min C/I)..." function calculates the
minimum C/I of one subscriber
with I = field - maximum Xpoldiscrim emanating from a non-parent station
- the "To all subscribers (C/I)..." function calculates the aggregate of
the power sum(I)
I=interference received power (including the IRF and the Xpoldiscrim).
= Subscriber interference C/I : the cross polar discrimination (Xpoldiscrim) is
taken into account for the jamming field
Note : in case of use of Andrew antennas (RPE) the diagram of the cross polar is
already taken into account in the received powers calculation

After a parenting calculation and in case of multi-channels situation, this new
function has to be rerun.
