INSTALLATION
SECTION 1 INSTALLATION
In this section, the user will find the first and basic steps in the using of ICS Telecom.
Two main procedures will be described, as :
1. Creation of a project - Displaying the files - Management of Projects
2. Installation and management of elements on the terrain
These two essential steps having been followed, the user can carry out simulations and analyses of the network.

The 'Commands' are the buttons situated at the upper part of the ICS Telecom screen.
They are used to activated modes, or to access databases and elements lists.
We will describe in this section each commands and using procedures according to a visual order: from left
to right.

THE TOOLS
THE TOOLS
We have named the 'tools', all the icons situated on the upper left side of the ICS Telecom screen.
Some of these tools are used to parameter the simulations, some other runs automatic calculation launched
from one point designated on the terrain by the user.
We will describe in this section each tools and using procedures according to a visual order: from the upper
left tool to the lower right icon.
THE TOOLS
The functions in ICS Telecom are organised into 13 Popup Menus. Each Popup Menu gives access to a submenu containing the functions. The symbol indicates the access to another sub-menu containing the options.
A function label followed by three dots indicates that a dialogue box associated with the function is to follow:
specific boxes (Print box, Propagation model box...), or Input box, File box...
A colour code is used to indicate the accessibility and differences of functions:
- colour black: accessible function or option at this time
- colour grey: inaccessible function or option at this time
The accessibility of functions and options depends on the objects present on the terrain, and on the activated
modes.
To access the functions, slip the mouse along the menus, and click (8 left button) the mouse directly over the
entitled function or option.

NEWS / MODIFICATIONS
______________________________________________________________________
+ Satellite coverage
+ All Interference to subscribers functions generate according to the chosen
function, with the table a distribution curve of the C/I or I/N or C/N+I values
= Parameters Menu - call-signs function : new option 'Re-assign mw ident...'
that re-assigns automatically the MW idents
+ Subscribers : new function 'Subscribers+MW to all base stations (I/N+i)...'
This function calculates for each active base stations (except MW) the N+i
report with N=ktfb of the station and i=sum of the powers received from the
non-parent subscribers and the parented subscriber if the station
transmits at different frequencies than the one used by the parented subscriber.
Then, the system calculates the sum of received power I emanating from the
active MW.
The results is I/N+i i.e I-(N+i) in dBm
+ Subscribers : new function 'To all subscribers (C/N+I)...'
same as function 'To all subscribers (C/I)...' with C=wanted power received by
the subscriber and N+I (KTBF of the subscriber + sum of the received powers
emanating from the non-parent stations and from the parented station if it
transmits at different frequencies than the one use by the subscriber
+ New ICS Telecom database : Satellites
= POINT mode : I/N function has been improved
+ MULTIPOINT menu : new I/N calculation function upon stations
+ POINT Mode - Report - new option 'POINT TO POINT correlation' : that allows to
generate a listing of a point to point correlation in dBm with the ability to
vary the location of the measurement of n pixel(s).
+ Rectangle tool : new Point to point correlation option - idem as the POINT
mode option but with power sum calculation (if the power sum option has been
selected) or best server calculation (the transmitter that offers the received
power nearest to measurement) emanating from all active transmitters contained
in the selection area
= Traffic calculation have been improved
= The Satellite antenna constant (R465) have been suppressed and integrated into
the parameters boxes
+ POINT menu : new I/N function that allows to calculate the I/N report by
varying the antenna attitude of the terrestrial station (azimuth and tilt)
= Path budget report : OUTAGE TIME information has been suppressed (this value
is not in conformity with the availability calculation any more)
- Interference coverage calculation : Interference % has been suppressed from
the reports
+ Constraints have been added into the ICSTEL99 (new ICSTEL99.MDB database)
= Radar expert settings can be saved in the EWF file (except pattern defined by
distances)
= New : EARTH converter tool added to the UNIT tool, that allows the K/DN/RADIUS
conversion
: multiplex equipments
