Indian in Space
The story of Indias space research programme can be traced back to the
days after independence, when Indian scientists and politicians realized
that a huge country like India needed to have its own satellites.
Dr. Vikram Sarabhai founded the physical research laboratory in 1947 in
Ahmedabad. In 1962 Dr. Homi Bhabha established the Indian national
committee for space research known as INCOSPAR later in 1969 it
became ISRO.
The beginning was humble and had no achievements to boast about. But
on 21st November 1963, the history was created by launching first rocket.
Interestingly the parts of this rocket were ferried to the launching station
on a bicycle.
