Reasoning Module-1

This document discusses different types of analogy questions that may be asked: number analogy, alphabet analogy, and mixed analogy. Number analogy questions examine relationships between numbers like odd/even, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, or mixed operations. Alphabet analogy questions analyze relationships between letters based on their position in the alphabet in the forward or backward direction. Mixed analogy questions consider relationships between letters and numbers based on letter positions or operations on positions. Examples and practice questions are provided to illustrate each type of analogy.

REASONING(Module-1)

Analogy: Generally three types of Analogy questions are asked: Number

Analogy, Alphabet Analogy and Mixed Analogy:
Number Analogy
In this type of analogy, numbers are given in a pair or group. You have to find
the relationship between the numbers or group of numbers.
The relationship in number analogy can be of following types:

Odd/even nunbers
Addition/subtraction
Multiplication/division
Square/cube
Mixed operations

Examples: 1) 2:8 :: 5: ?
a.120

b. 125

c. 40

d.100

solution: here 8 is cube of 2, so ans. Will be cube of 5 = 125. Ans.b

2) 35: 15 :: 87 : ?
a.107

b. 435

c. 67

d.20

Sol. Here 35-20 = 15; so 87-20 = 67 will be answer. Ans.c

Practice Questions:
Q.1) 7 : 343 :: 3: ?
a. 29

b. 8

c. 9

d. 27

c. 144

d. 576

c. 42

d. 16

Q.2) 12 : 145 :: 24: ?

a. 677

b. 577

Q.3) 17 : 29 :: 29: ?
a. 41

b. 17

Q.4) 512 : 8 :: 1331: ?

a. 10

b. 11

c. 12

d. 13

c. 121

d. 112

Q.5) 80 : 20 :: 448: ?
a. 120

b. 40

answers: 1.d; 2. b; 3.a ; 4.b; 5.112

Alphabet Analogy:
In this type of analogy, there is a relationship between the alphabets or group
of alphabets/letters. You have to remember the position of letters in English
alphabetical order and find out the relationship between the given
alphabets/letters or group of letters. The relationship between the letters are
of following types:

Vowels
consonants
Increasing position of letters
Decreasing position of letters
Reverse order of position of letters

Following table is showing letters position in in English alphabetical series:

Ex. AFKP : BGLQ :: CHMR : ?

a.DINS

b. DNIS

c. DKFP

d.DJQT

A +1 = B
F+1= G
K+1= L
P+1 = Q it means only one term ahead is given, it is clue. Now answer will be for CHMR
is DINS

Also Dont touch pen in this question. Because it is clear that pattern is visible .
Ex. BEJN: EHMQ :: RUCM : ?
a.UYGR

b. UFXP

SOLN. HERE

c. UXFP

d.PFXU

we see that B C D E
EFGH

Pattern is clear, two alphabet is missing after B, so for RUCM

You can take R ST U
U VW X
C DE F
M NO P
Clearly, ans. Will be UXFP, option c is the answer.
MIXED ANALOGY
In this type of analogy, there is a relationship between the given group of
letters and a number on one side. You have to find out the correct alternative
based on the given relationship. The relationship in mixed analogy can be of
following types:
The position of the alphabets or letters
Sum or product of the position of alphabets or letters etc.
Ex. READ : 9,22,26,23 :: GIVE : ?
a.7,9,22,5

b. 8,10,21,6

c. 20,18,6,21

d. 20,18,5,22

HERE we see that reverse order of READ is followed. So for GIVE answers
will be 20,18,5,22. Ans. d
Ex. WRIT : 7 :: HOTEL : ?
a.6

b. 8

c. 20

d. 5

HERE we see that WRIT = 23+18+9+20 = 70/10 = 7

HOTEL = 8+15+20+5+12 =60/10=6
Ans will be a.
Q.6) CFKT : ADIR :: YMPG: ?
a. GPMY

b. WKNE

c. KWNE

d. EKWN

c. SWX

d. QUV

Q.7) BFG : EIJ :: RVW: ?

a. UWY

b. UYZ

Q.8) GREAT : 25 :: NUMBER: ?

a. 36

b. 38

c. 27

d. 24

Q.9) F : 216 :: L: ?
a. 1728

b. 1700

c. 1600

d. 1723

Q.10) PST : 01 :: NPR: ?

a. 3

b. 4

c. 1

d. 7
answers: 6.b; 7.b; 8.a; 9. a; 10. a.
