ViconNet Version 8.X Upgrade Guidelines


To take advantage of the full power of ViconNets features, the
hardware must have significant computing power. For those upgrading
to ViconNet 8.X from an original version 7, the current hardware is
sufficient; for those upgrading from a prior version below 6, or those
upgrading from a version that was previously upgraded to version
6 from a lower version, the existing hardware may not be powerful
enough to support all of the features, although there are many features
that will be supported.
Listed below are the minimum hardware requirements for ViconNet
version 8.X. System A, for very old systems, represents Vicons minimal
requirements and expected functionality. System B represents old Vicon
systems that support more ViconNet functionality.

Hardware Requirements
Recommended Hardware for ViconNet Version 8.X. It is strongly recommended to update to this minimum hardware.
PC Requirements:

Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of disk space. Onboard 256 MB RAM Display Adapter.

Supported Operating
Systems:

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit; Windows 8; 2003, 2008 or 2012 Server 64-bit.

Examples of older Vicon hardware and their expected functionality


System A:
Very old hardware with
limited computing
power

3 GHZ Pentium processor, 1 GB of RAM, display


card with 128 MB and 5 GB of disk space minimum.

Supports open-standard IP camera recording (DVR/NVR);


Archive Wizard and Player Integrated web page content,
and enhanced macro functionality (DVR/NVR/WS); and
web browser interface, enhanced security settings and
diagnostics tools (Nucleus)

System B:
Old hardware with
better computing power

2.66 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 5 GB


of disk space.

Supports all System A features as well as H.264


compression recording and video vault (DVR/NVR);
H.264 compression multi-video stream display (DVR/
NVR/WS); and Events Management System (Nucleus)

Supported Operating
System:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32 or 64-bit; Microsoft Vista 32-bit; Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
32 or 64-bit; Windows 2003 or 2008 Server.

Upgrading to Version 8.X from Prior Versions


ViconNet Version 8.X is backwards compatible with ViconNet versions V4.X , V5.X, V6.X and V7.X. The machine hosting the ViconNet Nucleus must
be upgraded to Version 8.X before upgrading any system DVRs, NVRs or Workstations.

Software Maintenance Agreement


A Software Maintenance Agreement entitles the user free access to product upgrades. The contract runs one or more years and may be purchased
along with the product or if a Product Upgrade is purchased.
Vicons Software Maintenance Agreements are designed to support the original hardware for a period of 3 years. Afterwards, hardware upgrades
may be necessary to support future versions of ViconNet.
