Computer is electronic device that
convert data into information.
It takes input, process it according to the
stored instructions & produce result as

The Five Generations of Computers
Each generation of computer is
characterized by a major technological
development that fundamentally changed
the way computers operate, resulting in
increasingly smaller, cheaper, and more
powerful and more efficient and reliable
devices.

2.1 First Generation (1940-1956)


Vacuum Tubes

first computers used vacuum tubes for

used a great deal of electricity

2.2 Second Generation (1956-1963)

and lead in the second generation of

become smaller, faster, cheaper, more
energy-efficient and more reliable than
their first-generation predecessors.
