Taman Negara, straddling the borders of Kelantan, Terengganu and
Pahang, is one of the worlds oldest tropical rain forests. There is a diversity
of fauna and flora. The place is a particularly favourable destination for
trekking for its outstanding biodiversity is matched by a good network of
jungle trails and the availability of experts guides. Visitors come here for
fishing and rafting.
Peninsular Malaysias highest mountain, Gunung Tahan, at 2187
meters, is located in Taman Negara. Climbing the mountain is an
unforgettable experience. The whole trek takes nine days though fit people
can do it in seven days or less. The best time to do it is in February and
March. Due to the scarcity of water along the route, the journey must be
done it two stages. At least three days are required for the journey to the
summit and back.
A visit to Taman Negara is indeed a memorable one. It is a perfect
getaway from the hectic life of the city where one learns to be appreciative
of lifes wonders.
