To accurately assess process variability, this document explains that the variation introduced by the measurement system must first be separated from the actual process variation. It presents a model showing that inputs like observations and measurements are subject to short-term and long-term process variation as well as measurement process variation due to factors such as repeatability, gauge stability, linearity, and operator effects.
