Project 1: Sheetspread: Creativity and Concept in Design Project

The document describes a device called SheetSpread that helps spread bedsheets and tablecloths easily without folding. It works by attaching paperclips to the edges of the cloth using antennas, inspired by a scene from the movie Baahubali. The paperclips increase the weight of the cloth edges so it spreads uniformly. Antennas and eraser padding are added to the paperclips to prevent folding and provide protection from impacts. The document details the materials used, a three step process to assemble it, and includes diagrams to explain how SheetSpread works.

CREATIVITY AND CONCEPT IN DESIGN PROJECT

REPORT

Project 1: SheetSpread
Introduction:
Putting on bedsheets or a table cloth without a fold is an art. It requires a lot of effort and its time consuming. So, we
thought it would be really helpful if there is some instrument which helps us in doing that. Then came the idea of
SheetSpread. It is a simple manipulation of physics.

Physics behind it:

Inspired from a scene in the movie of Baahubali, where the hero clan decides to spread an oiled cloth on the enemy clan
who are charging towards them. The stones are released from a catapult which are tied to the cloth. The pictures below
explain it:

Using the same principle in our design, we are increasing the weight of the cloth by paper clips which allow uniform spread
of the cloth. Antennas make sure the cloth is not folded and also keeps all the clips intact.

Materials:
SheetSpread is made from the following raw materials:

Paper Clips

Antennas

Eraser (Rubber padding)

The quantity of each raw materials are as follows:

Paperclip
Antenna
Erasers

- 3
- 2
- 3

The other materials that are used in the process include: Fevi-kwik, transparent tape, scissors etc.

Description:
The making process includes three steps. They are as follows:

Step 1:
Estimated time: 10 minutes.
Take a paper clip and an antenna.
At the tip end of the antenna, place the paper clip exactly horizontal so as to ensure the device holds the cloth
without any aerodynamic issues. After fixing the position, apply fevi-kwik at the point and make sure it sits well.
Leave the setup for five minutes undisturbed.
Repeat the same procedure and make another one.

Step 2:
Estimated time: 15 minutes.
After both the pieces are ready, place their other ends such that they are linear to each other. Place the third clip at
the point where the two antennas meet. Make sure the surface contact is good and apply fevi-kwik to stick them
together. Being the joint, this takes more impact. So, take an L-shaped metal piece and stick it to the setup so that it
sits well. Leave the setup for five minutes before moving to the third step.

Step 3:
Estimated time: 15 minutes.
The rough product is already complete. This is an add-on for extra protection. Take a big length eraser (prefer
Apsara jumbo) and cut it into three parts across the width as shown in the image below. Take the three pieces which
are to be placed on three paper clips. Tape each rubber piece
completely so as to improve the strength of the rubber. The
rubber used in erasers is weak and not strong enough to take
the
shock. To improve the rigidity and tensile strength, it is being
taped. Now, we have a padding for each of the paper clip.
Using tape again, stick the padding to the paper clip on the
antenna side to protect it from shocks. Make sure the taping
holds it strong.

Final product:
