Rummage Sale A Success! We Netted $1700 From Our Rummage Sale!

The Rummage Sale held by Hillcrest Middle School was a success, netting $1700. Many staff, students, and parents helped by setting up, selling items, and breaking down. The funds raised will be used to purchase new technology items for the school. The wrestling team had a strong season, with several athletes placing in the top five at the state tournament. Hillcrest also held a successful fundraiser at Paradise Bakery to support the sports teams.

Rummage Sale a Success!

We netted $1700 from our Rummage Sale!

Thank you to the three night watchmen, Tommy
Eubanks, Jim Hughens and Frank Cappelletti for
keeping it safe and for all of the many staff mem-
bers, students and parents who helped set up, sell
and break down. Greg Smith and Gloria Butkivich
win for being the best price setters and hagglers.
Thanks also to the cafeteria staff for the delicious
breakfast goodies we sold to keep the crowds
hanging around longer. We had people who told us
they drove in from Wickenburg when they saw this
on Craig's List. Big Brothers and Sisters and Swift Charities were the recipients of
a lot of treasures. A huge shout out goes to our community for the dona-
tions they made and then for coming and buying their neighbors' items. We will be
purchasing technology items with the funds. It was fun and we are already plan-
ning for next year!

Cell Phones on Campus
From Administration:

We are starting to see more cell phones on campus. Just to address the rule: Cell phones are to be turned in the off
position and stored in the students’ backpacks from when they walk in the gate until they walk out of the gate. If
a student needs to get in contact with you they are welcome to use the phone in the office. If you need to
contact your child, please contact the office and they will get a message to have them call you.
Here are the consequences for cell phones on campus: 1st time = confiscation and given back to the student
2nd time = after school detention and parent pick up, 3rd time = 1 day OCR and parent pick up. These steps
apply to Ipod’s and MP3 players as well.

From there each time the phone is taken away, the OCR time goes up by one day until the student hits 5 days and
then the student will be suspended off campus.

Lost and Found

Please have your student check out the lost and found in the
gym and cafeteria before Spring break. Items left will be
donated to charity.

Thank you.

The 2010 Hillcrest Middle School Geography Bee took place on
January 13th with Julie Rzemien and Lynda Ridge, 8th grade
social studies teachers, as moderators. All Hillcrest social stud-
ies teachers had classroom bees which established a winner
who would enter the school-wide bee. Classroom bee winners
competed in the Hillcrest Media Center answering questions
provided by the National Geographic Society. The five final
candidates competing in the championship round were Cara Doyle, Brian
Scaramella, Tyson Langley, Jonathan Greene, and Hannah Wheeler. These
kids were hard to beat!

Finally, Brian Scaramella emerged as the 2010 National Geography Bee win-
ner!!! Congratulations to Brian!

The Hillcrest Wrestling Team finished off

a fantastic wrestling season by finishing
10th at the state wrestling tournament in
Tucson. Michael Suwyn finished in 2nd
place. Jonathon Turk and Hayden
Bigelow finished in 5th place. We were
the top placing team in the district. A great
job was had by all. We would like to thank
all the wrestlers and parents for an out-
standing season.

Hillcrest was able to raise $329.00

plus $285.00 in tips for the teams,
due to the generosity of Paradise
Bakery. Ms. Hollowell, Mrs. Truett
and some teachers were servers,
handed out samples, filled drinks and
all had a great time. Thank you for
coming and supporting us :)
