Respected Professor,

I am pleased to introduce myself. I am Rohit Gupta; have completed my


masters (Industrial Engineering & Management) at Shri G.S. Institute of
Technology & Science (SGSITS) Indore, Affiliated to RGPV, Bhopal. My
masters thesis was about a case study at a supplier of automobile engine
components. So my thesis was based on Camshaft Casting having Run-Out
problem titled, Process Optimization Using Design of Experiments in Cam
shaft Casting. I did my bachelor in Mechanical engineering from University
college of Engineering, Kota, Rajasthan. I am currently working as a faculty of
Department of Mechanical Engineering, at Rajasthan Technical University,
Kota. I am seeking favor to have an opportunity to work with you as a PhD
student.
Here is a brief outline of my research work:
I.

I worked on a four cylinder hollow camshaft having run-out problem on


one of its journal. Because of this problem, the manufacturer of this
camshaft used to get very high rejections from its original equipment
manufacturer (OEM). This camshaft also required very high rework
before final shipment to its OEM. This problem increased the cost of
the camshaft, which simultaneously decreased the productivity.

II.

To solve this issue, I used Design of Experiment/Factorial Design to


optimize the process and control runout.

III.

After analysis of complete process, Mould weight, Pouring temperature,


Shake-out temperature, and cooling time were taken possible factors,
which were affecting the camshaft.

IV.

I used Minitab (version 16) for analyses the collected data. After
graphical and statistical analysis of data two factors were showing
significant effect on the run-out of camshaft.

V.

I use 23 factorial design, where 3 shows number of factors under


consideration while
2 shows level of those factors. I verified my results through graphical
and statistical methods analysis.

VI.

There are many research which shows the application of design of


experiments in various fields like, automobile, aerospace, process industries
to find out optimize process parameters. I am really interested to work in the
field of automobile and aerospace and
As I have learnt from literature that you are one of the most eminent person
in the field, I will be highly obliged to work with you.
