Aims:
The course outline will introduce students to different methods of analysing
language and discourse on different patterns. This course further aims at fairly
advanced ideas related to linguistic variation, language used at different places
and consequently analysing it at different levels.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete the course unit and assignments will be able
to do the following:
Curriculum Contents:
The unit will introduce students to the basis of knowledge needed in order to
appreciate the field of discourse analysis, critically read CDA articles and conduct
a research study in the field of discourse analysis.
Session 1: Introduction, What is Discourse analysis and its scope, Different
models of discourse analysis
Session 2: Spoken and written discourse, approaches to discourse analysis,
Approaches to discourse analysis, Conversation analysis
Session 3: Formal links in discourse, Links beyond formal links
