Safety Matters - Performance Based Design Using Computer Fire Models

The document discusses the use of performance-based design and computer fire modeling to analyze fire safety and evacuation scenarios. It describes how fire models can be used to predict factors like fire growth, smoke spread, and structural impacts to determine adequate safety systems and code compliance. Examples are provided of projects where Aon Fire Protection Engineering utilized these techniques to analyze historic buildings, mixed-use developments, transit stations, airports, and allow the use of exposed structural steel. The overall benefit is a methodology to justify designs that enhance functionality while ensuring fire life safety.
