About The Engineering Engagement Project
Inspiring future generations to follow a career in this area is a priority for The Royal Academy of
Engineering and the Engineering Engagement Project led by the Academy, working with the wider
STEM community, will help to ensure that engineering can play a major part in solving global problems
such as climate change, food and water supply and energy security.
Aim of the project
By supporting teaching and learning in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics
(STEM), the Engineering Engagement Project aims to widen participation in STEM by helping
teachers and pupils realise the significance of engineering to their everyday lives.
The approach
Part of a larger National Engineering Programme led by The Royal Academy of Engineering, the
Engineering Engagement Project is creating a network of schools and teachers who work with the
Academy to build engineering into their ethos, enabling pupils to foster an appetite for STEM subjects
and forging lasting relationships between their schools, national teaching and learning providers and
local industry.
The project will build on the learning from other Academy led projects such as the London Engineering
Project (www.thelep.org.uk) and look to disseminate good practice to schools and teachers around the
UK.
What we offer
Schools have the opportunity to join a network of schools across the UK who all benefit from support in
STEM teaching and learning in four main areas. All schools have to do is fill in the ‘How to Get
Involved’ form and let us know in which areas they’d like support.
The four areas are:
Clubs
Support and guidance for setting up and running both new and existing science and engineering
clubs, including CPD resources for club leaders and help identifying inspirational STEM activities
to run in your club. Details of the existing STEM Clubs network, co-ordinated by STEMNET are at

Teacher's CPD
Receive priority access to newly developed CPD for design and technology teachers and those
who deliver the engineering diploma.
Role models
Increase the links between your school and local industry by inviting into your school inspirational
local engineering role models that your students can relate to. Details of the STEM Ambassadors
Programme are available at www.stemnet.org.uk
Curriculum resources
Help develop and be the first to use new curriculum resources which demonstrate the link
between the curriculum and real-world engineering.

Job Description
Full time (fixed term 18 months)
1. Job Title Resource Coordinator for STEM After-School Clubs and STEM Ambassadors
2. Job Purpose The Resource Coordinator will work on a day to day basis with STEMNET to
develop resources and materials to include in CPD training courses for
teachers seeking to start a STEM Club with a particular engineering focus,
and for engineers seeking to enhance their skills in demonstrating the
excitement and relevance of engineering in their capacity as STEM
Ambassadors.
4. Key Tasks 1. To work with the STEMNET Clubs coordinator to develop ways of
enhancing the engineering-related STEM Club CPD offered to
teachers.
A suite of engineering-related STEM Club CPD modules created, each one pilot tested;
Appropriate key people (at least 25) trained in the deployment of the STEM Club training
modules;
A suite of engineering-related STEM Ambassador training modules created, each one pilot
tested;
Appropriate key people (at least 25), including the sub-regional STEM Ambassador
managers, trained in the deployment of the STEM Ambassador CPD modules;
A business plan created for the ongoing use of the engineering-related STEM Club and
STEM Ambassador CPD modules.
6.Knowledge/ The post holder will have the following knowledge, qualifications and
Skills experience:
7. Resources The post holder will have available all the standard services and supply
agencies supplying The Academy. They will be given an adequate budget for
the development of all training and learning resources.
8. Autonomous The post holder will be expected to carry out the tasks defined above with
Actions initiative and without undue reference to the Education Programmes Director.
On a day to day basis they will work with relevant STEMNET personnel
9. Terms of The terms of reference and conditions for the post are contained in a
Reference and personal contract of employment issued and signed separately. The post
Conditions holder must be willing to attend meetings outside normal working hours and
to travel within the UK and overseas if required to do so.
