ABSTRACT
Introduction
Online Examination System is an online test simulator to take online examination. The basic idea
behind this system to be generated is to reduce the complexity occurring in the examination. This
complexity or overhead may be the vigilance in examination room, to provide an organized view
of examination, to conduct examination without discrepancies and with proper arrangements, to
check whether authorized person is appearing in the examination, to check whether every
candidate is getting same question paper or same difficulty level paper,to remove the methods of
manually checking of test paper thereby wasting time and reducing paper work, to provide
instantaneous results,to store the results in database, to provide simple process of examination,
and to save resources like pen and paper.
The main purpose behind the proposed system is to provide a comprehensivecomputerized
system, which can reduce the burden, thereby, making life easy and compatible for administrator,
organizer as well as candidates. Also, the objective is to efficiently evaluate the student
thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only saves a lot of time but also gives fast
and accurate results. It will also reduce the paper work. The results will be shown immediately to
the students reducing the anxiety.
The online examination system is easy to use, full featured and flexible testing, examination and
assessment web portal.

To provide an interface through which student can appear for examination online for
objective as well as subjective type questions.

To provide registration for students done by themselves.

When the student starts the exam the timer will start automatically and show the student
how much time is left.

The questions will be display randomly from question bank of different difficulty levels.

Answers will be checked automatically by the system from the database, estimated marks
are also displayed to the candidate.

The authority to modify the criteria is provided to the controller of examination.

To facilitate Experts to send a collection of questions in Question Bank, with different


types of questions (objective, subjective, comprehension, true false, blanks) &
section(English, GK, quantitative, reasoning, technical) and their difficulty level scale.

The Exam Dept will manage the question bank sent by experts.

To facilitate Exam Dept Admin to make schedule and declare Result.

Characteristics
1. FORM DESIGN:
The candidate or the desired person is provided with a form, which would be designed to gather
or collect the information about the students. This information helps the organizers to produce
relevant and correct data, which in turn helps in removing discrepancies.
2. USABILITY:
The links are provided for each form. The user is facilitated to view and make entries in the
forms. Validations are provided in each field to avoid inconsistent or invalid entry in the
databases. Some forms consists Hyper Links, which provides further details. Reports screen
contains text boxes and drop down lists, so that reports can be produced.
3. REGISTER:
The registration of interested students would be done by the students by filling the form. The
registration form will collect all information of the student during the registration process. Some
information would be mandatory and some would be optional. When student gives all the
information correctly then the system would generate an unique user-id for the student as well as
password.
4. USER:
User can register, login and give the test with his specific id, and can see the results as well. The
student page would contain his information about the test results and his previous qualifications
details. He can also change his profile, password, personal details (address, contact info, name,
photo, etc). Student can also view their results, which can be further generated as hard
copies. Students attempt papers according to their convenient time and there is no need of using
extra thing like paper, pen etc.
5. ADMINISTRATOR:
Administrator has a privilege to create, modify and delete the test papers and its particular
questions. He is allowed to select an exam, set the total number of questions for the exam, set the
sections, assign questions to these question papers for the exam. He can set the difficulty level of
each question paper set, by selecting the questions from easy level, medium level, hard level
questions.
6. DIFFICULTY LEVEL:
The difficulty level would be maintained in the exam, so as to remove the discrepancies. The
difficulty level is set by the organizer. The organizer while putting the questions, answer them
and scale them with the difficulty (scale range from 1 to 5, where 1 is easy level and 5 is hard
level), which get stored in the database for the easy carrying of the exam.

7. SIMULTANEOUS DAYS TEST:


When the organizer wants to conduct the exam for consecutive days, he may wish to have
different sets of paper. Also he want to have the paper to be having equal marks distribution(that
is, the difficulty level must be kept same) so as to have no disputes.
8. QUESTION BANK:
The user would be provided with a large variety of the question sets. The candidates appearing in
the test on a particular date, would not have same question paper with the candidates appearing
on any other date. The question paper would have a random set of questions, but the difficulty
level would be maintained. The more the number of questions the better randomization is
achieved. Question Bank Module takes care of question bank management of the system, which
is used during on line test. This module will manage all activity of adding new question to the
question bank, deleting the question from the question bank, modifying the question already
exists in the question bank. Also levels of the questions are also set to meet those examinees that
are registered for different level of the examination. Questions are entered with many parameters
so that specific question can be selected during the on line test.
9. SECURITY:
Application will allow only valid users to access the system. Access to any application resource
will depend upon users designation. There are two types of users: Administrator and Student.
Security is based upon the individual user ID and Password.
10. DATABASE:
A database would be maintained which will keep the log of the students. It would contain the
information about the students which they entered in the form, their answers and their results for
future use. The database will also contain the rich question bank with its answers and the
difficulty levels.
11. SERVER:
For the organizer to conduct an non-disputable examination, the application would be limited by
the server. The clients attached to the server can only conduct the exam. The server would limit
the range of the IP-address, thereby, limiting the access to the exam section. The clients linked
with the host server will be the only one, who can have a smooth functioning of the exam.
12. SESSIONS:
The administrator or the organizer would have different sessions on the host server. These
sessions would enable him to see the proper functioning of the system, to check whether the
client system is working or not, to check for the errors in the system.
13. ONLINE TEST:
On Line Test module manages all activities to conduct the examination. First it checks the valid
examinee through the login window and checks the user name and password. Then question are
selected randomly from huge database where questions of different levels are stored. All set of
questions are selected uniquely so that no two student get the same sequence of question. Timer

control is the major part of this module. Each examinee is allowed a limited time to appear in the
examination for exam. This module manages time duration of the examination for each paper.
When time is over no single question can be answered. Examinee only can exit from the on line
test. Question navigation can be possible in this module. Examinee can move next or previous
question whether it is answered or not. Details of the answer sheet can be viewed during the
examination and if examinee wants to change the answer, which is already answered, he/she is
permitted to do so.
14. Result and Report :
Result and report handles the evaluation process of the On Line Test. This module checks and
compares the answer given by the examinee and the standard answer, which is already stored in
the database. Total correct answer is then evaluated on the basis of predefined marks. This
module also generates detailed report about the result such as total number of questions, total
correct answers, total wrong answers, etc.

o List of Registered Examinee

4. The On Line Test Module will perform following activities:o Conducting the Examination
o Select Question Paper Randomly from the Database
5. The Result and Report Module will perform following activities:o Result Report according to the subject

Online Examination System Modules

After feeding the required info(s) to the Login window the system checks user type of the
corresponding user ID, whether it is Administrator or a Student.

1-Administrator View:
It contains the utilities for Administrator in the Admin Menu page :

The admin can login using his login-id and password.


The admin can configure question bank database and difficulty level.
The admin can display the results of all appeared candidates.
The admin can keep an eye over his system while the exam is being conducted.
He can manage various other activities over the system.

2- STUDENT VIEW:
It contains the utilities for Student in the Student Menu page .

The student can fill the registration form.


The student will get an user-id and password.
The student can appear in the exam, view results of his exam, edit his personal
information and navigate back to the home page of the system.
The result will show the total number of question in question paper, the total number of
question he attempted, the total marks for correct answers, the total marks for wrong
answers, his total and his percentage.
