1.0 INTRODUCTION
Assalammualaikum and Salam Sejahtera. Thank god, we give thanks to
the Almighty for his grace, we can come together on this day for PTA
meetings SK Sungai Anib 1 for the second time this year, 2015. I did not
forget to say thank you very much to the headmaster of SK Sungai Anib 1 ,
Mr. Abu Bakar Bin MD Zain who have given me the time to speak in front
of all of you.

My name is Nur Jazilah Binti Haji Mohd Sharif as a

President of PTA for this school. I would like to extend a warm welcome
to all parents who have taken time from your busy schedules to attend this
meeting. This shows that you care. Your presence here give us hope that
together: Parents, Teachers and the PIBG will forge a stronger bond in
developing your child's education and knowledge. We are here today to
talk about our children as pupils in this school. We are here to talk about
the problem and how to solve it, so that our children can improve their
learning performance.
Ladies and Gentlemen, at the last meeting of the association, many parents
voiced their concern about the poor performance of their children,
especially in Mathematics, Science and English. They felt that the school
should work hard to improve the teaching and learning of these subjects.
Our association can help to solve the problems but we did not have enough
funds to implement projects for this school. As PTA president, I want to
talk about this issue and propose some solutions to ensure that pupils can
improve their learning performance, particularly in some of the most
vulnerable subjects such as Mathematics, English and Science.
On this day I will focus more on the problems that exist, things that we can
do and how solutions by providing some measure of effective solutions. I
hope all parents can give feedback with this issue so that a decision can be
taken to ensure the excellence of our children in this school. Parents can
also provide constructive recommendations to strengthen the measures for
resolution of the issues discussed at today.
2.0 EXISTING PROBLEM
Ladies and Gentlemen, as I have explained before, there are two issues we
should discuss together. First is the problem of poor student performance
and weak in Mathematics, English and Science. While the second problem
is the problem of insufficient funds. I will explain each of these problems
to our knowledge together
2.1 The poor performance in Mathematics, Science and English
Referring to some of the results of the assessment carried out by the
school found declining student achievement, particularly in the three

key subjects of maths, English and science. After my review, this

problem may arise due to several factors.
I will describe some of the factors according to four categories: general,
for Mathematics, English and Science. The first factor is generally a
problem exists is because of the attitude of the students themselves.
Attitudes of students were among the factors causing the decline of
learning performance of our children in this school. Many students often
make a negative impression that such subjects are too difficult and
complicated. This is why students feel less interested in learning in
these subjects. They still do not see the importance of these subjects in
everyday life and the importance of their careers in the future.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the second factor is the ratio of Mathematics. As
we know, in Mathematics understanding of the concepts are very
important in mastering the subject. Without an understanding of
mathematical concepts will cause the student can not answer questions
in Mathematics. Students are shy to ask the teacher if they not
understand what they are learned in the classroom. In addition to these
aspects, important to remember multiplication tables. If not memorize
the multiplication tables then it will be a barrier to students to answer
questions in Mathematics. Moreover aspect less training and drills at
home are also among the factors leading to poor students in
Mathematics. They only depend on the role of the teacher in the class.
After completing his schooling session, they do not take their own
initiative to revise the weak subjects. Training is essential in improving
the understanding of what they have learned in class. As an example of
Mathematics, drills are very important in improving the skills and
understanding of mathematical concepts.
The third factor is for English Subjects. In a study of this subject, the
vocabulary is very important. Lack of mastery of vocabulary is on of the
factor that why students can not master the subject English well.
Another factors is grammar skills. Student weaknesses in grammar
skills cause they scored less, particularly in areas of writing.

And the last factor that I want to share here is for subject Science. On
this subject, they are just like math. Understanding of the concepts
crucial to mastering science subjects. If in mathematics, students should
increase the drills, then for science students get a lot of students to
conduct experiments to increase the understanding of scientific concepts
for each topic.

2.2 Shortage of funds

Ladies and Gentlemen, as we know, our association lacked the funds to
implement programs that are appropriate to enhance the performance of
our children. We can plan to implement the planned activities, but we
need to find sufficient funds to cover this issue.
Dana is important for the school and association. This is because the
funds collected will be used to move the school or association towards a
more developed and prosperous.

With the funds available,

improvements in school education can be increased and improved. As a

result, the students and the school community in general can increase
towards the achievement of excellence in education and thus realize the
Higher Education Quality Standard (TKP) aspired.
2.3 Influence of the latest technology
Ladies and gentlemen, as we know, this is a urban school. An outside
influences is also one of the factor. I mean the latest gadgets like ipad,
tabs and other else. Most parents can afford to buy latest gadgets for
their kids. These things cause they are preoccupied with social web like
facebook, whatsapp, twitter and others. And also they are preoccupied

with playing games and this is not beneficial to their learning. They
only waste time playing with gadgets rather than studying at home.

3.0 WHAT CAN BE DONE BY PTA

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is one
important mechanism in creating quality education in schools. Through the
PTA, many programs and measures can be adjusted to overcome various
constraints that could impair the climate of teaching and learning in the
school. PTA is also an observer and evaluator of a school trip. In other
words, PTA members can serve as evaluators of school performance either
in matters of academic and co-curricular activities. Following this,
discussions may be held from time to time with the school in order to
overcome any weaknesses and problems encountered. PTA and the school
should help each other. By working closely with both sides only the quality
of education in schools can be improved .
Ladies and Gentlemen, PTA very important role in improving student
academic achievement. Here are some suggestions that can be
implemented with the approval of the PTA. Due to the achievement of this
school is declining performance, especially in three subjects; Mathematics,
English and Science, then the PTA and the school need to do something to
improve the performance and student achievement. Among the items
proposed is called a specialist teacher for every subject and increase
motivation courses to students who are weaker and less potential. In
addition, the PTA can also organize seminars and motivational camps for
students in each school. In addition, the PTA as a competent organization
may establish an education fund for students at this school. PTA also that
of the parents can volunteer to assist teachers in providing additional

classes. We know that among the guards also have expertise in their
respective fields. They can use their skills to help teach pupils
Ladies and Gentlemen, there are only my proposals to solve the problems
we face. Things that I suggest is an activity that can be implemented by the
PTA in collaboration with the school. But I will describe in more detail
each of these proposals after this.
4.0 EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS
Ladies and gentlemen, here I want to explain in more detail regarding some
of the things that I am suggest a short while ago. I describe this explanation
by reference to the factors that I have laid out at the beginning.
4.1 Called a specialist teacher for each subject
As we know, the expert teachers are individuals who specialize in
certain fields. They have more skilled with specific areas and have
the knowledge, skills, and expertise in the subject, particularly in
the areas of teaching and learning. Of course they understand how
best to teach pupils in improving the performance of a weak
subject. I am suggested that the PTA call teachers by field experts
needed to share knowledge with students and teachers in this
school. These activities not only give benefit to the students but
also give benefits to teachers.

And teachers can acquire new

knowledge in educating pupils.

These programs should not be held every week or every month.
Because it would require higher funding. We just need to
implement it once as a guide for teachers and pupils make
references. The rest of it can be expected that teachers gain
knowledge from these program and use it for pupils at this school.

4.2 Organize Seminars and Motivational Camps

Ladies and gentlemen, at the beginning I had presented several
factors that cause students weak in some subjects. Among them is
the attitude of students who are not interested in a particular subject
and also they still do not see the importance of such subjects in
their daily lives and in their future careers. So I suggest that the
PTA implemented a seminar or motivational camps for enhancing
confidence and motivate their students about the importance of
knowledge in life. Through camps and seminars such as this can
provide awareness and act as a spur for students to achieve what is
aspired for the future. Motivational camps also plays a role to
increase the level of confidence among students. Programs like this
are important in order to create awareness and motivate students to
continue to learn and succeed. Students can also be made aware of
the problem through counseling and motivational camps. With this
move, they are expected to repent and return to compete with
friends in the lesson. As a result, we not only reduce the symptoms
of misconduct or improve the academic performance of students,
but the school will be able to create a generation of young high
attitude.
4.3 Establish an Education Fund
Ladies and gentlemen, we are aware that any activities to be
undertaken requires adequate financial. Among the problems we
face is the lack of funds which can help to carry out any activities
planned. So therefore I suggest that the PTA create an education
fund for this school. This educational tube can be filled not only
through the contributions of its members but also by certain
corporate and individual members. Parents can also assist in finding
the financial resources to meet the education funds if they are
capable of. Funds collected can be used to carry out the activities
that have been planned.
4.4 Extra Classes

Ladies and gentlemen, I am recommend the school to provide

additional

classroom.

These

additional

classes

should

be

implemented in accordance with the category of students according

to their learning achievement levels. For example, we can create
three categories of weak, medium learners and achievers. These
additional classes will be conducted by teachers and can also
involve the parents who have the appropriate expertise. I hope
there are parents who are willing to engage with these extra classes
are held. With the cooperation of various parties are able to produce
a very large impact on student achievement.
4.5 Parenting Seminar
Ladies and gentlemen, finally, I want to emphasize here, decrease
student achievement not only the responsibility of the school but it
is also the responsibility of parents. As I talk in the beginning was
that one of the weak students in learning is the latest gadgets
bought by parents. This is where the role of parents. Is not mistake
to give gadgets to children but it is an advantage for them to gain
knowledge through the gadget. But parents should control their
children. So I suggest that the PTA held a special seminar for
parents to realize the role of parents as well as sharing knowledge
about parenting together. As parents and guardians, I hope that we
will be actively involved not only in monitoring our childrens
academic progress but also their behaviour

5.0 CONCLUSION
Ladies and gentlemen. So here I want to emphasize that
excellence and increase student achievement this school is
our collective responsibility as a community. As we are well
aware that a major problem is the decline in student
performance in three subjects namely Mathematics, English

and Science deteriorating. At the beginning of my speech

had been presented several aspects or factors that may

cause deterioration of the performance of students in this
school. I have also suggested some things as a solution to
this problem. I repeat some steps that I was recommend in
my speech, first is called a specialist teacher for each
subject, second is Organize Seminars and Motivational
Camps, third is Establish an Education Fund, fourth is Extra
classes and lastly the Parenting seminar. So after this I and
PTA committee will make a proposal together for all these
recommendations as a first step to ensure that it is
successful.
So I hereby recommend that parents and teachers may
cooperate in ensuring that the problems faced can be
solved

and

produce

great

impact

on

student

achievement. However, much of any activity described

earlier, if there is no cooperation between all parties, it will
not be fulfilled once the proposals can not solve the
problems we face. I want to emphasize once again that the
performance of our children is our collective responsibility.
Let us not simply blame a party only. Let us join hands in
implementing what has been suggested say.
So I hope that, if there are comments, suggestions or
constructive criticism of my speech, my welcome to you,
ladies and gentlemen raise after this. Finally, I hope that we
can implement appropriate activities for pupils.
Ladies and gentlemen, once again I would like to sincerely
thank all the out-going PIBG committee members for their
co-operation, time and energy in helping the school to
achieve its various aims and objectives. We are truly
blessed to have had this very special group of people
