METHOD STATEMENT FOR


DEMOLITION OF ROOF, SLABS,
BEAMS, COLUMNS AND WALLS
(PARTIAL)-EXISTING BUILDING

1. INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement details the procedures and safety measures to
be adopted for the demolishing of Roof slab, Beams, and Walls of the
existing building of Sinhaputhra finance building, 11-A, Hill Street,
Kandy.
Prior to demolition of the existing building, all necessary fittings and
equipments required by the client to be removed before 15 th of
December 2006.
The work procedure is divided into following major works, which
includes machinery and equipment mobilization, transportation and
dumping. All related works to be carried out as stated below.

Safety Plan

Proper tools and machineries.

All demolishing to be carried out under the close supervision of a


safety Officer nominated by the sub contractor, in compliance with
standards and specifications and under the direction of District Factory
Engineer.

2. WORKING PLANTS AND EQUIPMENTS.


The following equipment and machinery will be used.
Excavator - 01 Nos.
Compressor 02 Nos.
Breaker 03 Nos.
Dump truck 01 Nos.
Gas welding cutter set 01 Nos.
Welding Plant 01 Nos.
Scaffoldings

3. MANPOWER
The general demolition work will be managed and directed by the sub
contractor .The safety officer nominated by the sub contractor is fully
responsible for the overall implementation of safety measures at the
site. The demolition work will consist of the following personnel.
Skilled Labourers -

07 Nos

Unskilled labourers 07 Nos.


Supervisor 02 Nos.
Safety Officer 01 Nos.

4. PROCEDURE
4.1.The items to be removed by the client.

All internal fittings.( Door frames, Window frames , Air condition


Units. )

4.2.The Demolition to be carried out by the sub contractor.

All adjoining structures should be removed out first, without


damaging the building to be existed.

All Tiled/Sheet (Asbestos) roofs should be removed out with all


the items.

Partition walls should be removed, and taken out as per the


instructions.

The slabs to be remove part by part by using concrete breaker.

All beams to be cut in to pieces, because one beam is too heavy


to remove at one time. Subsequently remaining will be
dismantled and removed.

The columns, Floor Paved Materials to be removed out.

All concreting items available under ground level, which affecting

Footings and ground beams should be removed without fail.

7. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT


In order to prevent the occurrence of site accidents, the provision of a
safe working environment for workers is essential. The following safety
precautionary measures must be implemented in avoiding and
minimizing site accidents during this demolition period.
The sub contractor shall at all times, keep the site free of accumulation
of waste materials and debris arising out of the execution of the sub
contract works.

7.1 GENEARL SAFETY CONTROLS.


7.1.1 Safety nets for falling objects
7.1.2 Safety for pedestrians passing by.
7.1.3 Safety sign boards
7.1.4 Sprinkler water -To prevent dust during transportation.
7.1.5 Sprinkler water -To prevent dust on ground before the
Commencement of work.
7.1.6 Proper covering during transportation.
7.1.7 Health Ear protectors, Dust masks, Safety belts, gloves,
Safety helmets. Safety Shoes etc.

Special Note:
All temporary Electrical Connection , Water Facilities and Telephone
Cables to be disconnected by the client , before handing over the
building., without fail.
All workmen engaged in demolishing work, should maintain good
discipline , at the work site.
Always maintain the rules and regulation as per the instruction given
by Kandy Ready Mix, in accordance with environmental pollution.
All Temporary Facilities provided by KRM should not be damaged or
misused by the sub-contractor.
