OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. identify and differentiate angle of elevation and angle of depression;
2. solve different word problems related to angle of elevation and angle of
depression;
3. apply it in real life situation; and
4. participate actively with the group activity and the discussion of the
lesson.

C. MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
I will present different pictures and
the students will identify based on their prior
knowledge if the picture being presented is
under an example of angle of elevation or
angle of depression.

D. LESSON PROPER
Now, do you have any idea on what are
Yes sir, angle of elevation and angle
we going to discuss today?
of depression.
Very good!!
Today, were going to discuss on how
does angles of elevation differ from
angles of depression, we will also
discuss on how to solve the real life
application of the topic by means of
word problems using the basic
trigonometric ratios.
Lets start discussing angles of elevation
by identifying if your answers are
correct.
Mr./Ms.______, how can you come up
with this answer? What is your basis to
say that this is an example of angles of
elevation?
How can you describe angle of
elevation?
Very good!
Let us first know the mathematical
definition of angles of elevation.
Please read____________.
Very good!
Next will be solving word problems
related to this topic, for example.
Try to solve this example,
Example 1:
At a point on the ground 18 feet from
the foot of the flagpole, the angle of
elevation to the top of the pole is 48.
Find the height of the flagpole.

E. APPLICATION
Since, we are already done in discussing
our topic for the day, we will have an

Problems:
1. A ladder 8 meters long lean against the
wall of the building. If the foot of the
ladder makes an angle of 68 degrees, how
far is he base of the ladder from the wall?

EVALUATION
A. Solve the following problems.
1. A 12 meter high post casts a 19 meter shadow. Find the angle of elevation to the
sun.
2. The angle of elevation from a boat to the top of a 92 meter hill is 12 degrees.
How far is the boat from the base of the hill?
3. From the top of the control tower 250 m tall, a rock is sighted on the ground
below. If the rock is 170 m from the base of the tower, find the angle of
depression of the rock from the top of the control tower.
V.
ASSIGNMENT
A. Answer these problems.
1. A plane is flying at an altitude of 14,500 ft. The angle of depression from the
plane to a control tower is 15. What is the horizontal distance from the plane to
the tower? Round to the nearest foot.
2. A woman is standing 12 ft from a sculpture. The angle of elevation from her
eye to the top of the sculpture is 30, and the angle of depression to its base is 22.
How tall is the sculpture to the nearest foot?
