Responsibilities and Right of Employees
OSHA is an act to make further provisions for securing the safety, health and
welfare of persons at work, for protecting others against risks to safety or
health in connection with the activities of persons at work, to establish the
National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, and for matters
connected therewith. Employee need complying with all applicable Occupation
Safety and Health Act (OSHA) standards.
Firstly, employee have to take reasonable care for the safety and health of
himself and of other persons who may be affected by his acts or omissions at
work
After that ,employee have to co-operate with his employer or any other
person in the discharge of any duty or requirement imposed on the employer
or that other person by this Act or any regulation made thereunder
Employee need to wear or use at all times any protective equipment or
clothing provided by the employer for the purpose of preventing risks to his
safety and health
Finally, employee need to comply with any instruction or measure on
occupational safety and health instituted by his employer or any other
person by or under this Act or any regulation made thereunder
Right of employees:
All employees have basic rights in the workplace including the right to privacy, fair
compensation, and freedom from discrimination. A job applicant also has certain
rights even prior to being hired as an employee. Those rights include the right to be
free from discrimination based on age, gender, race, national origin, or religion
during the hiring process. For example, a prospective employer cannot ask a job
applicant certain family-related questions during the hiring process
Employee have the right to know the hazards in the job. Employer or supervisor
must tell employee about anything in employee job that can hurt employee.
Employer must make sure employee are provided with the information needed so
that employee can work safely.
Employee have the right to take part in keeping workplace healthy and safe.
Depending on the size of the company, employee can be part of the Health and
Safety Committee or be a Health and Safety Representative. Employee also have
the right to participate in training and information sessions to help employee do the
job safely.
Employee have an obligation to report the unsafe situation to management. If the situation is
not corrected, employee have the right under the OHSA to refuse to perform the work.
Accident at workplace.
Accident at workplace is an accident in the course of work that leading to
physical or mental occupational injury. The accident recognized as an
industrial injury if the injury occurred due to work or working conditions. In
other words, there has to be causality between work and the cause of the
injury.
There are a lot causes which can lead to an accident at workplace. Firstly,
neglecting safety procedures. This is probably the worst thing that any
employee at any level in the organization can do. Deliberately neglecting set
safety procedures in the workplace endangers the workers nearby as well as
the company as a whole.
Then, lack of preparation of workers can lead accident at workplace. When
workers begin a task without thinking through the process beforehand, or
hastily start without any type of planning, they are setting themselves up for
failure.
After that, employees failed to follow the organizations rule. This will lead
an accident at workplace. For instance, employee not follow the instruction
well how to use the machines properly, an employee failed to wear safety
gear, an employee tend to do the work operation too quick and negligence to
complete the work and etc. Therefore, the employee will do their work in
dangerous status that can harm employee anytime.
Finally, employee lack of training. Training is very important to each workers.
This is for give knowledge and skill to employee. When the employee lack of
training, the employee will not productivity, lack of motivate and they tend
do a lot of error during their work.
As well as the cost in terms of lost lives and suffering to workers and their families,
accidents affect business and society as a whole. Fewer accidents means less sick
leave, which results in lower costs and less disruption to the production process. It
also saves employers the expense of recruiting and training new staff, and can cut
the cost of early retirement and insurance pay-outs.
To prevent accidents in workplace, the organization need to give fully training and
development to each employees. By giving fully training and development, the
employee will satisfied in their work, increase in productivity, and gain motivate to
do their work properly.
After that, to prevent accident in workplace, employee need to thinking before do
their work. By thinking before do the task will help workers more aware to their
environment. Therefore the employee will prevent do their work negligently and
dangerous.
Then the employee should follow all the organizations rule and regulation. The
employee must obligated to the organization rule in all aspect. By follow all the
organization rule and regulation the employee will do their work properly. For
instance, employee do wears the all safety equipment gears, follow overall rule to
implement their work and not negligence do their work.
Finally, the organization should aware if their machines need maintenance. This will
prevent the machines to running improperly and harming to all workers. Besides
that, by maintenance of machines can increase the productivity and reduce cost of
organization.
