Machine Drawing Two Mark Questions
Machine Drawing Two Mark Questions
Semester:3rd
38. Why are split muff couplings used in preference to solid muff?
39. What is the specific use of an expansion pipe joint?
40. What is the advantage of using a swivel bearing over a Plummer block?
Five marks questions:
1. Make a free hand sketch of a 25 mm diameter, standard hexagon-headed bolt,
with nut and washer. The length of the bolt is 150mm.
2. sketch neatly, taking any suitable proportions, the following welded joints:
a. butt joint
b. lap joint
c. tee joint
d. corner joint
e. edge joint
3. Sketch freehand at least four types of rivet heads and give their proportions. Take
diameter for rivets as 25mm.
4. Sketch two views of a single riveted lap joint for 16mm thick plates.
5. Sketch a half sectional front view and a side view of a protected type flange
coupling.
6. What is the various type of bearing? Show them by simple diagram?
7. How the axial movement of brass is prevented in case of a Plummer block.
Explain with neat sketch?
8. What is the function of connecting rod in IC engines? Draw a simple sketch to
show big end and small end of the connecting rod?
9. Draw different types of lines used in machine drawing.
10. explain the following term with neat sketch:
a. clearance
b. interference
11. Sketch two views of a single riveted butt joint, with two cover plates, for 9mm
thick plates.
12. Draw full size, at least two complete turns of a helical spring of 18mm square
section wire, moved on a 72 mm diameter bar. Pitch of spring 72mm.
13. Make a careful drawing of sketch of the profile of, (a) a Whit-Worth screw thread
and (b) B.S. Unified thread form.
14. Compare the use of keys with the use of cotters and illustrate your answer by
sketching an example of each, when used to fasten parts together.
15. Make a well-proportioned freehand sketch of a simple coupling. This is fastened
with standard hexagonal bolts and nuts. Take diameter of shafts to coupled as
30mm.
