Writing - Exercise Tennyson Kraken

The poem describes a mythical sea creature called the Kraken that sleeps in the depths of the ocean. It dwells far below the sea in an ancient, undisturbed sleep. Gigantic sponges and polyps surround its shadowy form as it lies dormant, feeding on enormous sea worms. The poem states that the Kraken has remained in this state of slumber for ages and will continue to do so until it is awakened by some future event, at which point it will roar to the surface and die upon being seen by men and angels.

The Kraken

Below the thunders of the upper deep;

Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded
sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights
flee
About his shadowy sides: above him
swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and
height
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret
cell
Unnumberd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant fins the slumbering
green.
There hath he lain for ages and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his
sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by men and angels to be
seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the
surface die.
