“St. Francis Xavier, a welcoming faith community lovingly sharing the gifts of God.”

2ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

JANUARY 17TH, 2010
PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED: We pray for our loved ones who have died recently,
especially Zofia Zelichowski.
PRAYERS FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-IN: “Let us raise up in prayer those who seek
God’s healing love, those at the hospital, hospice and at home. May your struggle be
consoled by Christ’s love“.

HAITI RELIEF FUND: The Bishop has encouraged us to take a special

collection for the Haitian people. Further information will be forthcoming as to the
distribution of funds. Development and Peace is the national organization of our
Church that will likely be the venue for the campaign’s distribution.
Cheques, clearly marked for the “Haitian Relief Fund” should be made out to St.
Francis Xavier Parish for tax receipt purposes. We encourage you to join our special
collection next weekend. Your are free to bring donations to the parish office at any
time.

PILGRIMAGE TO OUR TWIN DIOCESE: We will be leaving for Peru February

1st for a two week stay in Chincha Alta, Peru: Nancy Bailey, Cathy Mahusky, Terri-Lynn Mahusky
and Yvonne Sklepowicz, together with 2 people from Mattawa and 2 people from Arnprior.
A group of nine people from our diocese will accompany Sr. Pauline Coulterman (a sister of
St. Joseph who missioned in Chincha Alta, Peru, for over 23 years) to visit members of our
sister parish of Our Lady of Fatima. The group hopes to share funds with needy families for
the necessities of life, i.e.: food, beds and bedding. They hope to participate in work projects
while there and to have funds to aid in providing a loan or grant to assist families with a self-
sufficient future.
Your donations to this mission project are important. Please consider a special donation
over the next two weekends.
Upon their return we will host a gathering for an update. Let us not forget the devastating
earthquake a few years ago and the need for people to now rebuild their lives.

CELEBRATING EUCHARIST: We expect our Church in Canada to issue a new “Sacramentary” in

2011. It will affect the way we all celebrate daily Mass and Sunday Eucharist. We will need time to
review, reflect on, and implement a few things that will deepen our appreciation of the
celebration of our Sacrament.
Continuing until Lent, we are using the homily time to look at our current celebration of Eucharist,
what the liturgy is meant to be,and how each of us can fully participate in celebrating Mass.
