Summary/Overview

Aims

designed to introduce you to the study of grammar


and vocabulary, aural comprehension, oral ability, and the
reading and writing of simple Spanish.
It will focus on language and the many facets of several
Hispanic cultures, and to develop all your language skills:
speaking, listening, reading and writing. This class will
emphasize the learning of Spanish for real world purposes
through introductory grammar and basic vocabulary, writings,
texts and presentations.
In this course the student will develop his ability to
communicate satisfactorily in Spanish in everyday practical
situations and will acquire some of the skills necessary for
effective reading and writing in Spanish. The course requires
regular classroom participation and approximately two hours
of outside preparation for every hour of class. By the end of
this course, students will demonstrate both oral and written
proficiency in Spanish in the following grammatical areas:
present, preterit and future with the verb ir, differentiation
between ser and estar, correct usage of nouns, articles,
subject pronouns, prepositions and adjectives. Students will
also be able to identify information in relation to Hispanic
cultures and populations in varying geographical locations.
