FAGLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL AND CHILDREN CENTRE
CHARGING & REMISSIONS POLICY
RATIONALE
The governing body of Fagley Primary School adopts the Charges and Remissions Policy
of City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council as set out in the appendix to this
statement.
Childrens development and learning is enhanced by the provision of a variety of
experiences beyond the normal school environment.
Educational visits and in-school performances are valued both as learning experiences
themselves and as enriching on-going learning in the classrooms.
AIMS
1.
To inform parents/carers of the requirements of the 1988 Act regarding
charges and remissions.
2.
To clarify the situations in which charges and remissions apply.
GUIDELINES
1.
All Educational Visits which take place during the school day will be funded by
voluntary contributions. No child will be excluded from the trip on the basis of
whether parents have made a voluntary contribution. However, if costs are not
covered, then trips will be cancelled.
2.
Speakers and performances within school will be funded by voluntary
contributions and/or school fund. No child will be excluded. However, if costs
are not covered, the performance may be cancelled.
3.
4.
Charges may be made for loss, breakage or damage to materials, equipment and
buildings, where it is deemed to have occurred through careless or deliberate
action.
Charges will not be made for after school activities but parents/carers will be
expected to provide necessary items (e.g. trainers/pumps for sporting activities).
5.
Residential Visits - board and lodgings must be paid for by parents/carers
unless they are in receipt of income support. Voluntary contributions to cover
the cost of travel will be requested from all parents/carers.
6.
Any visits which do not fall within these guidelines will be subject to the
Authoritys Charging and Remissions Policy.
7.
This policy is open to amendment in light of changing school circumstances or
Education Bradford policy.

CHARGES AND REMISSIONS POLICY
(Prepared in line with Sections 106-111 and 117-118 of the Education reform Act 1988
and DES Circular 2/89)
Examinations
The Authority undertakes to remit completely charges payable in respect of the entry
of a pupil for any prescribed public examination for which the pupil has been prepared at
a school maintained by Bradford Education.
Board and Lodging
Under certain circumstances (where the activity is deemed to be inside school hours or
is out of school hours and covered by paragraph 19 of circular 2/89) parents in receipt
of income support or family credit are required to have the board and lodging costs of a
residential visit remitted. It will be for governing bodies to ensure that this
requirement is complied with. The cost of remittance will be met by the school through
its own funds. Schools must ensure that such funds are available when arranging
residential visits.
Individual Tuition in a Musical Instrument
All tuition for a prescribed public examination will be provided free of charge by the
LEA. Where costs of materials are not currently met by the LEA then these will be paid
for by the school.
The examination fees for associated board examinations will be provided by the
Education Bradford for grade 5 and above. Fees for examinations up to grade 4 will be
charged to the parent.
Schools will receive an entitlement of one hour free tuition; additional time will be
charged. Schools may then charge all pupils receiving tuition on an equitable basis.
Practical Subjects
For practical subjects such as home economics or CDT, parents who wish to take the
finished product home can be charged for the cost of the materials. The Authority will
not remit such charges.
